The box was fairly small and the puzzle itself is not what I expected. It was kind of disappointing.

I am so sorry, I cannot answer your question, I bought this item as a gift for someone else. They said they had fun with putting it together, but that is all I can tell you.

Would this be a good puzzle for a 75 yo with mild dementia? Are the pieces large enough to adult fingers to manipulate?

I think I would say no. It has a lot of tiny flaps to fit together which only a ten year old would have the patience and dexterity for. I would recommend instead 100-200 piece jigsaw puzzles for younger children that are still challenging for their grandparents. Or small lego sets maybe?

This puzzle is foam center with heavy coated paper outer layer. Really nice quality. We were very happy with our puzzle.
