Sportsmans Axe

We wanted a small axe for jobs when we are working on the property and need something more substantial than a machete, but not as hefty as a full size axe or chainsaw. It’s not top of the line, but it sharpens well enough, is durable and if it somehow gets dropped and lost, we aren’t out of a couple hundred dollars to replace it.

Good quality hatchet, works well chopping small trees (1 to 6 in diameter) splits wood into kindling nicely. Seems like it will last a lifetime.UPDATE: Jam 26, 2015Have used this axe for several months now in rain and snowy weather. Its made of stainless steel and hasn't rusted. If it does I'll just use fine steel wool or sandpaper to clean it up. This has worked well for all my metal cutting tools for many years. I wipe them down with a dry terry cloth and apply a little "3 in 1" oil after each use.I like this Estwing tool very much. I would give it five stars except for the handle. It is wrapped with leather "washers" and varnished. The varnish allows it to slip in my hand occasionally when it is wet. I probably will sand off the varnish and rub in boiled linseed oil. That should make the handle less prone to slip.Very happy with it, especially since my wife gave it to me!

Just as expected, few manufacturing imperfections but as expected. Arrives sharpe and ready to use!

It arrived sharp and in pristine condition, after using it for some time it was exposed to some humidity overnight that caused it to rust excessively.
