Just the right amount of love and humor
The Lopsided Christmas Cake is the first book in a series by the same name. This book was written by bestselling author, Wanda Brunstetter and her daughter-in-law, Jean Brunstetter.I know, you're wondering why the world I'm reading a Christmas Book at this time of year. I'm going to be honest here—I'm a Christmas freak. If you've heard about those people who put their Christmas trees up in October? Yeah, I'm one of those.Having said that, this book mentions Christmas but it's not the focal point. The real focus here is how a lopsided cake helps a girl find love. How so? Well, I guess you'll just have to read.Rats, cats, and lopsided cakes make this a quick and enjoyable read that will have you smiling and laughing. At least, I certainly did!If you're looking for a serious book, this isn't it. This is a lighthearted romance as well as a touching tale of sisterly love and affection.I promise you won't feel like a Christmas fanatic for picking this book up in the middle of the year. Just do it and enjoy! You can thank me later.

Not My Favorite Brunstetter Novel
This is the first book I have read by Wanda Brunstetter that also has a coauthor, her daughter-in-law. Together, the Brunstetters spin a yarn about two 32 year-old single twins who are suddenly on their own, taking over the house and store of their recently deceased grandparents. Elma is a hard worker, but also very particular in how things should be done. Thelma is very social, loves to entertain children rather than work in the shop, but is also very brave and good with the twins' newly inherited, wily horse. On a whim, Thelma decides the girls should enter a baking contest in Shipshewana. All should be fine except for two things; the girls are still battling the cranky cookstove their grandparents left behind, and they will have to assemble the cake on stage, in front of everyone. A minor detail Thelma omits to tell Elma until the last minute. When shy Joseph Beechy convinces his friend, Dell Gingerich, to bid on the girls' disaster of a cake, the twins meet and start dating the two best friends. This appears to be a stand-alone book, which causes a few issues for me. While the twins's characters were fully developed, I was hoping for significant growth in at least one of them. The ending seemed rushed and pulled together with basting stitches instead of the small, intricate stitches for which the Amish are known. Worth reading, yes? Could it be a great book in others' eyes? Read others' reviews. Probably. In my mind, it just did not live up to the warm, fuzzy feeling I usually have when I finish a Wanda Brunstetter book.I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet, funny tale.
What a great story about twin sisters, Elma and Thelma Hochstetler. One sister is very serious, while one jovial and enjoying life. Wanda and Jean did a great job with the development of both of these ladies and I loved reading about their adventures and laughing right along side their mishaps.Thelma and Elma think that they will just be a pair of old "maedels." When they inherit their grandparents house and business, they have a lot of work to do to fix the place up. When a baking competition flyer catches their attention, they enter with a cake from their grandmother's recipe collection. The auction day arrives and things do not go their way. That is until someone keeps upping the bid on their sad looking cake! When they meet the winners of their cake, bachelors and best friends, Joseph Beechy, harness maker, and Delbert Gingerich, carpenter, in near by town of LaGrange, Indiana, the sisters have a change of heart and hope that they might not end up old “maedels” after all.As always, I enjoyed Wanda’s book. This was a short read, but it was just as enjoyable as any of her books. I look forward to the continued story for Thelma and Elma.

Cute and cozy!
Wanda takes us on a journey from Illinois to Indiana with the Hochstetler Twins, who couldn’t be more dissimilar! As always, Wanda does a great job describing the area of Indiana that the twins settle in. So much so that the next time I get down that way I’m going to eat at Tiffany’s! You’ll enjoy that although there are major differences between the sisters they are devoted to each other. And then love comes calling. What changes will that bring in their lives? You will want to read and find out. I enjoyed this book; it was a light, quick read that was fun and relaxing.I received a complimentary copy of this book but as under no obligation to post a review.

Christmas can come at any time of the year with a Wanda Brunstetter book!!
Since Christmas is a most wonderful time of year, for me, I was thrilled to get this book and spend the day reading! Mrs. Brunstetter was the first Amish genre author that I read, many years ago, and once again, her book is a delight!! Sisters....whew....need I say more, but these are twins with 2 different personalities. Anyone who has a sister knows the challenge...LOL!! Put on some Christmas carols, get your Christmas blanket out to snuggle with and a nice warm cup of meadow tea.....and spend a day that I promise you will enjoy!!

The Lopsided Christmas Cake
Identical twins always make for some interesting stories. This one was no exception. A silly promise made by the girls to each other when young, almost causes one to lose the man who wanted to marry her. Fortunately the other twin figured out what was going on and put a halt to it.A light story, easy to read on a lazy afternoon. Wanda Brunstetter's books are always enjoyable.

Okay
I have read a number of books by Wanda Brunstetter and have enjoyed most of them. I felt this book lacked character development and the plot could have been fleshed out more. The premise of the book sounded great and the final product could have been so much more.
