Will it fix a leaky plexiglass tank?

100% silicone is for use on glass and not recommended for long term adhesion on acrylics, plexiglass, plastics since they contain petroleum products which will cause the silicone to peel off in time.  (MAY be fine for short-term use.)  There are special adhesives/sealants for use with acrylics and plastics and they will be labeled as such.  Plexiglass, specifically, needs an adhesive method that actually "melts" the plexiglass, which then creates the bond.  100% silicone adhesives/sealants will not do that.

Could this be used safely as a gasket around my filter screen at the bottom of dishwasher used to block food particles around edge of screen filter?

I’m no expert but as it is silicone and it is safe for aquariums once cured, it should be safe for a dishwasher.

Will salt water eat sealant

Accepted Answer

In general silicon sealants will handle salt water.  I used this particular sealant for a fresh water tank, but I have used silicon sealants on my salt water sail boat without an issue.  The main problem with all sealants is you need a clean, oil free, and dry surface for the sealant can properly attach to the surface.  You need a humid, but not wet environment for the sealant to cure.  I suggest placing a well dampened cloth in the bottom of the tank.  You don't want water on the sealant, but you need moisture in the air.

After applying the silicone, approximately how many minutes do you have before taking the tape off?

if you mean using masking tape to keep the glue off an area, i would pull it off when it is still wet,
and probably wouldnt wait more than 15 minutes to do so. Remember you can spritz the silicone with water to help it cure faster and better.
