I really liked the crisp highs of the HS5s, but I found the lows to be rather weak/absent. Is it a different case with the HS7s? thanks!

I used to work in a high end recording studio with tons of monitors including the "standard" NS-10's. I will say the HS7's are the closest thing I've found to the orginals. The 5's sound great, but you're right... it's hard to tell what's happening in the low end. The 8's sound good but to my ears they were really "tight". Plenty of low end, but can get a tad muddy. I mixed just one EP on them and was not satisfied with how they translated to other listening environments. The HS7's have been perfect for me. And I don't mix with a sub unless its for TV/Film.

Does the HS7 have enough bass on its to not warrant a subwoofer?

Yes HS7 have enough, I've bought them with a goal to not use a sub. I personally use +3..5dB on equaliser on the lowest end in my music player to have some more punch, but that's my personal preference :)HS5 however do not have enough bass.

Do you guys/gals have these toed in or playing straight ahead? Which sounds better?

I have them angled in because I don't have room to set them straight on.. They sound great where they're at now. Also use the sub woofer along with them, HIGHLY recommend..

It says "Monitors", does this mean they come as a pair? Or is this just a single?

When I bought it, they were individual. Most places usually show the price for one single monitor. However, sometimes other vendors will sell a "bundle" package. Usually for the HS7 you should not be paying over $299 (US) per monitor.
