A "Must Have" Book for Anyone in Music....
To simply put it, this book is packed with information. It covers every aspect of the music industry and the various types of projects one could experience either as a song writer, producer, small business, a musician or anything in between. There are sections on risk management, hiring, business management, assigning tasks; the list goes on.There are also shared thoughts, ideas, strategies on how to handle things like meetings, workspaces and vampires. Don't let the size of the book scare you. The chapters and sections are well marked and easy to read and follow. There is some humor that keeps the reading fresh.I have had specialized courses in bank project management, computer project management, independent time management and Covey time management; this book is the best one I've seen in it's industry. To keep in the spirit of the book here are my "CLOSING THOUGHTS":I don't read a lot of books, but I find this book very powerful and very important for project management. I have four music based projects that I have to do, set up a curriculum, write record and produce a CD, start a small business and create a non-profit studio. I am already using the lessons from this book and I know it will help me achieve success on all four of these projects and future projects.

Outstanding and even better as part of the Berklee course!
This book is phenomenal! I purchased this book for the Berklee Online Course "Project Management for Musicians." The book alone gives a very detailed and precise depiction of the various tools and techniques used when managing projects; both at the industry level, as well as scaled down to a personal level. The only thing the book doesn't do is put the techniques and tools into practice for you, besides a few practice scenarios at the end of each chapter that I would highly recommended doing. With the Berklee Online Course, which is extremely intense and project heavy, it reinforces what's in the book and requires that the student manages multiple (major) projects properly (both the students projects as well as other students projects), while at the same time submitting weekly assignments and exercises, in order to get a good grade. So, while the book is fantastic on its own, it is especially fantastic and life-changing when coupled with the Berklee course.

the more you know, the more prepared you'll be
a lot of what this book covers is common business sense - no brainer stuff. what makes this so valuable is that the majority of musicians I have dealt with over the years have ZERO business sense. this really is a must read for anyone in the music business. some reviews complain the information is too basic. yea, there is a lot of basic information but the book also covers other information that is easily overlooked or not obvious. lets face it, music performance is a business. once a musician who is in music for fun crosses the line into the professional realm they'll need all the information they can get their hands on and this book is a good starting point. the more you know, the better. the music business can be brutal.

Every Musician Should Own This Book
If you're a working independent musician, this book is a must for you. The most effective tools of project planning, execution, and closure in the corporate sector are realistically applied to the music world, from brainstorming a new project to closure. Jonathan Feist invites readers into a conversation but he guides and never lectures. The prose is clear, easily understood, and with an economy of words that both experienced musicians and newcomers alike will understand. Feist's wry sense of humor is a bonus. This Berklee Press book is made of high quality materials. No corner were cut in the printing of heavier stock pages, and this book will survive bouncing around in a backpack.

Highly Recommended (Not Just for Musicians)!
This book is a fantastic guide for musicians, but is also useful for general project management (e.g. home and work projects!). It's easy to follow, is entertaining to read (the author has a great sense of humor), includes practical diagrams, and I appreciate that the author shares some of his own experiences, which I can frequently relate, so I'll be able to put these methods to use for future projects. Really happy with my purchase!
