Easy to install and works well and only gets destroyed when you jam the door mechanism. At least this breaks and not anything more expensive or things go flying round garage. Meets OEM spec. Pity you cannot just buy the metal threaded but as that's the bit that wears out.

This little item was definitely worth the money. Is looks exactly like the original one and I believe it is made by Genie. It saved me over $700 that I was about to spend on a new opener which I thought I needed. I was very fortunate to have stumbled into a You-tube site that gave excellent instructions as to how to replace this item. It was easy. All I had to do is follow the explicit instructions in how to take the old one off and then install the new one on along with greasing it with the recommended lube. When I tried to open my garage door for the first time it worked great! Thank you Amazon for having a clear description of the item along with pictures from three different angles. It made it a lot easier for me to order the right part.

Fairly easy to install, and saved me a bunch of money since I didn't have to call a pro to fix my door. I bought extra just in case. I think these are made to fail in order to save the more expensive parts.

The part is easy to install, but it has some minor manufacturing differences from the original. Because of this it either won't work at all, or works for a short time and then >>appears<< to have failed like the original. However, it the carriage teeth have not failed or worn out like an old one, they are just not engaging the screw properly. Like several others I took it apart and put the new metal carrier into the old carriage body. On the first try, I didcovered that the safety engage lever would not fully snap into lock position. The new metal part was incompatible with the cam lever of the old carriage and was raisiing the teeth too high. I took all apart again, and salvaged the cam mechanism from the new carriage and put it in the old one. Now it engages and seems to work well - fingers crossed. Don't buy this if you aren't prepared to spend a lot of time coverered in grease transplanting parts. Search "How-to Replace The Genie Screw Drive Carriage Assembly" to find the Genie webpage that has a step by step on how to do this. 1) remove old damaged carriage - save 2) remove springs and pins from the new carriage 3) remove toothed carrier and metal cam lever from new carriage 4) remove springs, pins, toothed carrier and cam lever from old carriage body 5) install new toothed carrier and cam lever into old carriage body 6) install pins and screws from old carriage to hold the new parts in place - be sure to put the cam lever in the same orientation as the old one 7) reinstall old modified carriage and test to be sure the toothed carrier is firmly engaged into the screw shaft. The carrier won't move if you have been successful 8) Reassemble the opener mechanism you dissembled to remove the old carriage
