Do the plates have a raised rim to stop gravy spilling over ?

Yes they do rise at the edges. I was surprised that they are quite thick and weigh a bit.

Are these heavy? I need ones that are not too heavy so an elderly relative could lift

They are lovely quality and I suppose if you are elderly if you carry more than a couple may be a bit heavy but individually they are fine.... hope this helps 😊..... they have some nice melamine sets on Amazon.... I ordered it but they are not dishwasher safe or microwave I’ll see if I can send a pic
