Marathon B402 48Y Frame Totally Enclosed 48S17D7209 Attic Fan Motor, 1/3 hp, 1800/1200 RPM, 115 VAC, 1 Split Phase, 2 Speeds, Ball Bearing, Resilient Base

Purchased this for an attic fan. It was an identical replacement for an existing one that had conked out after 18 years of service. The data plate showed the wiring configuration for CCW rotation, which was identical to the existing one I had. I wired it as shown with the white wire on terminal #5 and the blue wire on terminal #4, and when I turned it on after installation it rotated clockwise instead of counter clockwise. I should have tested its operation before climbing up to and crawling through the attic of my house that has black shingles on a 90º to install it, but neglected to do so. So I got to make a second trip to correct it. I switched blue and white wires on terminals #4 and #5 - the data plate shows this as the configuration for clockwise rotation - and it now turns counter clockwise as I wanted. I'll admit this was partially my fault as the prudent thing to do would have been to apply power and test it before dragging it up to the attic. Don't know if this was isolated or an entire batch is wired incorrectly, but you would be wise to test run it before installation, especially if installing in an awkward location.Other than that little issue, it is working fine. Hopefully I will get 18 years of service from this one!
