why did I go most of my life without this item??
Perfect for grating the parmesan at the table, which is all we need. Takes a small fraction of the old cheese grater and easily goes in the dishwasher. Such a great item!

Not what I wanted, what I needed.
so I don't write a lot of reviews and I had a cheese grater that was a metal, completely metal flat with two handles on the side no plastic and I've had it for years and I loved it.I don't know where it went, but it's gone. I can't find it anywhere, so I went on the hunt and I cannot find that cheese grater anymore I spoke to lots of people in stores and no one has seen one in years and years. It was suggested to try an antique store or whatever, it is very frustrating, but I did want something that was smaller than the box graders and that I could keep in a drawer. I ended up buying this, it cost more than I wanted it to. I was hesitant after reading all the reviews but I used it the other day and it was very easy to hold, it was comfortable, and when I graded the cheese it made it skinny, my other grater had largers hole. No problems! I was using Colby I think, a soft cheese and there was no problem, when it was grading there were long skinny strands which melted instantly on my food. It's an easy wash, mostly because it's small, it still is a cheese grater so not like washing a flat surface.

Feels pretty light weight, but it's definitely working great.
I bought this to replace one that I lost in a move. It's not a heavy duty feeling as my old one, but it's definitely doing the job. The dishwasher has no trouble getting it clean, but a few swipes with a pot scrubber would also do the trick for manual washing. It makes a nice, finely grated cheese. I knocked it one start because it feels like it might have durability problems with being so lightweight, but I haven't had it long enough to say for sure. I like my kitchen tools heavy.

Expected a coarser grind
Expecting more mid-sized result once grated. Instead got fine grate which, for recipes, translates to needing more product to produce the measurement. Example: 1/2 c finely grated cheese vs 1/2 c coarsely grated. I'll enjoy this grater yet will need another with larger grind.

Love it for cheddar!
Easy to hold and use. We tried this and immediately threw our old cheese grater box out. This grater makes it so easy to clean! Nice larger shreds for cheddar on taco night!

Convenient, easy to use, just what I wanted
I have a larger flat combo fine/coarse shredder with a slicer slot that works okay at its task but is awakward to place on a bowl or plate or hold in mid air over a dish. When I saw this demoed in a cooking video, I was instantly attracted even it is single purpose. The narrow handle gives a good grip and a slight hook down on the frame hangs onto a plate, bowl or pot when extra bacing is nice. Works great for hard and firm cheese (not tried with soft) and potatoes and carrots for shredding.

Give the buyer time to use the item first; you don’t know if it’s for personal use or a gift.
I only gave 3 stars for ratings because I didn’t want to add a review yet. It’s one of many “box stuffer” presents for my youngest daughter, who can cook very well but wants to jump into Italian cooking. Her birthday is next week, and I need to wait for her to use the cheese grater plus the many other items I purchased for her before I can offer an opinion. To me the item is easy non-slip hold and looks great, but I’m not the one using it. I always leave feedback on everything I buy through Amazon, as I will on this item also. Just a small suggestion to give a person almost a month for a reply, because they can be gifts that aren’t ready to be opened yet. I do have friends who suggest not only this K-Basic cheese grater, but other of your items as well, and they love them. Please send me an email in a couple of weeks and hopefully my daughter will have used this item by then. Thank you
