Does this inline-microphone-mute cable work with any headset/earbuds with a microphone?

No, the one side of the cable is unbelievable large and only fits this headset.

Do you need a mix amp to use this? Or can you also plug it into a controller?

If your controller has the 3.5mm jack in it then yes it will plug in and work. You just don't have the ability for volume control/eq settings.

Is this a genuine astro factory sealed product?

Genuine yes. Factory sealed? You will have to see the individual sellers and the conditions they list the product in. thanks

Hopefully you purchased this within the 5 years you asked from, but yes, it is 4 pole (shorter) 3.5mm to plug into your device and 3.5mm 5 pole (little bit longer) to fit into the astros.
