Q: Is this a "motorized" sprayer or do you need to pump it?

You need to pump. There is a lever on the side that you push up and down as you spray. You basically build up pressure in the tank and you pump to maintain that pressure.

We've only used the sprayer to spray our lawns. Due to the strong chemicals that we use, we've never aimed the sprayer up in the air to determine how high it would reach. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
