It will darken the Naples so that it will no longer look like maple. It will also darken the walnut likely more than you want. This product is not for walnut. It is for making lighter woods appear to be walnut.

Would this product prevent mildew in unfinished headboard?

I think this product is great. By itself I don’t think it would prevent mildew but together with a water based polyurethane You should be in business if applied properly. Use enough coats of the polyurethane after you get the desired stain color.
