Replacement for Mini Cooper Panoramic Sunroof Motor Gear

Perfect fit for my Mini Cooper sunroof motor. The old one will have to be drilled out. Drill out the center shaft, it's soft metal so a cobalt bit works fast. Use a small bit first then slightly bigger. Do not damage the metal gear since you can re-use it. After the shaft has been drilled out, collapse the edges with some pliers to weaken the remains of the shaft and relieve tension on the metal gear. Carefully tap the shaft out with a light hammer, supporting the metal housing. It's pot metal so be gentle. Generous lithium grease and reassemble. You will need to tap the metal gear back onto the shaft. Use a socked and support under the plastic gear. Remember, no stress on the housing. Make sure the metal gear is fully seated. there is a step on the shaft so you cannot overdo it.

The gear needs the hex head if the sunroof needs the be opened or closed manually. If fixed the problem. Still cheaper then replacing the motor.

The hexagonal head helps to close it or open it manual with a key. This gear is formed using a flat head deadbolt. It will replace the broken gear but not be able to manually close or open your sunroof
