Great Replacement for the Aeron Classic
Works as advertised. Fits the Classic Aeron. Zero complaints. Very satisfied with this purchase. Instructions: You’ll need a hammer, wd40 or a penetrating oil, and an 11/16 socket. Optional: patience, swear jar. 1. First remove the seat. (Use a hex key/Allen wrench). 2. Prepare to remove the wheel base by applying degreaser/wd40 to the points where the cylinder is attached. 3. Wrap a towel around wheel base and gently use a mallet to knock it loose/off. 4. Remove the the plastic hardware lid by gently prying it open. Place aside. 5. Use a philips screwdriver, to remove the two screws holding the pneumatic lever. 6. Place chair at an angle over a bench or chair. (Pneumatic cylinder facing down at an angle.) 7. Place an 11/16 socket on top of where you removed the pneumatic lever lid. (From Step 5. The removed lever lid reveals the hole where the pneumatic cylinder is affixed.) 8. Whack the hell out of the 11/16 socket with a hammer. If it is properly degreased, it will shoot right out. 9. Attach the new cylinder to the wheel base. 10. Place chair on top of cylinder and wheel base. 11. Replace the two screws from step 5. Adjust the screw that sits on top of the new cylinder. The height/position of this screw will either increase or decrease the rate at which the chair goes up and down. 12. Repeat steps to re-assemble. (This point is a great time to deep clean the chair). 13. ???? 14. Profit :)

Fit ok, simple to install
Too early to know quality long term, but seems good. The pipe wrench removal technique shown in several videos needs refining. Rather than hold chair and push wrench (almost impossible to do without serious strength and two people), simply give the wrench handle a moderate sharp blow with the hammer. Works just fine, with 1 or 2 whacks to loosen the old cylinder. The bottom of the new part is a bit closer to the floor than the original but still clears the floor by about 1/4". May catch on a carpet. Might need larger wheels to fix if that's a problem. I don't see any adjustment for this ...it's a simple drop-in fit. The tiniest variation in diameter can make a big difference in the fit, so this after market replacement may suffer from less than perfect match. Make sure you adjust the button lever on top of the cylinder (under the plastic cover) after installation. Mine needed to be turned down a couple of turns with allen wrench before it would activate, so if it doesn't work immediately, that's likely why. Overall, the chair is designed for very easy cylinder replacement and the cylinder fits well.
