A comprehensive guide for developing your own Knitting patterns.
I'm hoping to develop and self-publish a few knitting patterns on Ravelry and this is the only book I could find on the subject. What a trove of useful information! She covers all the basics about necessary information as well as unnecessary-but-nice-to-give details. There are loads of knitters' comments about what they like. (No one can possibly meet all those expectations but it makes me aware of some sticky issues.)This is head and shoulders above an over-priced Craftsy online class on how to write patterns. I could barely watch that on-camera instructor as she pivoted back and forth between cameras over and over till I was motion sick. And the class materials barely scratched the surface of what this provides. I suggest you invest your time and money here.Update: published first pattern (with free intro promo) and had 7000+ downloads in first 3 days. I'm so glad I wrote the pattern using this guide to make sure knitters aren't annoyed by amateur mistakes.

If you want to do more than follow a knitting pattern, get this book.
Easy to use and helpful introduction to adapting knitting patterns--and then creating my own. I've reached the point in my knitting that making changes to knitting patterns happens frequently. I needed help figuring out how to change yarn weight and needle size with confidence. I'm also hoping soon to try writing my own patterns and now have a book that will help me figure out how to do that. The book also offers really specific information about how to write up the pattern so it's most useful for others to use, an aspect of the book that those who want to post to sites like Ravelry will appreciate..

Helped me a lot!
As a beginning pattern maker, this is an excellent resource for editing and how to structure patterns. A lot of it focuses on sweater patterns, which is nice because they're the most complex with sizing and different headings (ie. AT THE SAME TIME) but most of it translates well to, say, a sock pattern. I used this to refine my newest pattern and have already gotten some compliments on the editing. I have the kindle edition, which is really nice and well edited, and I'm thinking of getting another in hard copy (I'm old-fashioned and books are just better, but not to lug around). Recommended!

A must by for any designer or tech editor!
This book is the best pattern design book I have seen. As a knitting technical editor myself I wish every designer would read this book. It has everything a designer needs to make a successful pattern. There are so many helpful tips and tricks and it also explains the why behind pattern designing. This needs to be a staples on every designers knitting bookshelf.

Great book for anyone looking to publish their first pattern!
This is a wonderful book for anyone looking to publish a pattern. I like the detail it goes into on each topic and how there are insights from actual knitters as to what they are looking for in a pattern. The additional resources mentioned are great too. Highly recommend!
