How often do I have to clean my nanosteamer and how?

I use mine everyday so at least couple of times a week, I make sure I unplug it, turn it upside down in the sink, then place it on a towel. I make sure all the components (3 of them; the body, top part, and the little water container) get dry. Package says once in a while to make sure there is no buildup to put couple of drop of clear vinegar in it and use it. hope this helps :)

Does the steamer turn off automatically when it runs out of water? Has anyone used it as a humidifier in the bedroom during sleep? Thank you.

No. I mainly use it for its humidifier in the winter months, and have always used distilled water only. Mine definitely does not last for a full half hour. I would say probably half of that amount of time. Then you refill it as the tank gets low rather quickly. I stay on top of filling it, and do so more often than every 30 minutes for sure. I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my sister. I wouldn’t recommend as a humidifier. Do not leave on all night. I don’t use the facial steaming feature much, as my skin is dry. The facial Steamer seems to be a good one. Don’t bother buying the humidifier and steamer in one.

Can you use essential oils in this unit?

You can! I put a few drops of my essential oil on a cotton ball, place in the towel holder in the steamer, close, fill with water, and turn to facial steamer. It’s amazing!
