Used to be a good product
I love raw nuts and have been buying these Brazil nuts for a few years now. I started off with the non organic Brazil nuts from "Food to Live", they were really great and I purchased more after using up the previous batches. Then I discovered Food to Live also had organic Brazil nuts. I thought to try the 1 lb bag, I experienced a improved taste difference. The next time I went for the 2 pounder and this time I was very displeased with the nuts. About 50% were either bland tasting or had a strong off-taste, maybe a solvent type taste. You can actually see the difference in the bad tasting nuts. They were darker in color, not the nice creamy color they should be. It was as if they ran out of the good OK nuts and replaced the shortcomings with some bad rejects. I will try one more time with another purchase but will have to discontinue buying Brazil's from Food to Live if their product continues to be unacceptable.

Yum - My second favorite nut, and its benefits are crucial
Brazil nuts are the best way to add selenium to your diet. Selenium is a trace mineral that is essential to good health but required only in small amounts. It is used in creating important antioxidant enzymes that help prevent cellular damage from free radicals. Free radicals are natural by-products of oxygen metabolism that are seen to contribute to the development of chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease. Selenium is also critical for proper thyroid functioning and plays a role in the immune system. The mineral selenium has been shown in multiple studies to be an effective tool in warding off various types of cancer, including breast, esophageal, stomach, prostate, liver and bladder cancers. "It contributes towards the death of cancerous and pre-cancer cells. Their death appears to occur before they replicate, thus helping stop cancer before it gets started, and has also been shown to aid in slowing cancer's progression in patients that already have it.Eating just two Brazil nuts a day is effective in increasing selenium status and enhancing glutathione peroxidase activity. Glutathione peroxidase is the general name of an enzyme family with peroxidase activity whose main role is the protection of organisms from oxidative damage. That is why I pay so much for a bag of nuts. Yet it goes a long way. Food To Live product is organic and tastes fresh. I am doing Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn / Dr. John McDougal's diet which is an oil free diet. Nuts is not permitted, but circumstances and the benefits of Brazil Nuts are cause for that change. That said, I highly recommend Food To Live's Brazil Nuts.

As soon as these arrived I immediately put them in the refrigerator. After about a week or so I took out about a cup and put some in a bag to snack on later. So after a about handful one was rotten. And if you've never had a rotten nut or seed you'll know. Anyways I'm about a third of the way through the bag and I will never buy these from this company again.

I read recently that it is excellent to eat 2 brazil nuts a day for the selenium. I know that it is most unwise to eat non-organic nuts as pesticides are very concentrated in the nuts. My research showed this size and brand to be the most economical brazil nuts I could locate. They are OUTSTANDING. Absolutely fresh and delicious. I keep the large bag refrigerated since it will obviously take my husband and I a while to eat them all, haha. I confess I usually ingest more than TWO each day.Addendum 2/13/16: The second bag received was definitely stale. I let them know directly and they immediately offered a refund. I declined and said I would give them another chance. The third bag was fine. The fourth bag, recently received, was really beat up. The packaging had so much 'nut dust' that the clear portion was cloudy. Most of the nuts were scraped or broken and it appeared that there was a white fungus on them. The company said that it was just the dust from the nuts damaged from shipping. Sure didn't look like that but they are probably correct. I am choosing to buy whole, healthy-looking nuts from my local organic retailer. They cost $1.56 per pound more AND for the time-being, that is more appealing than eating these in their questionable condition. It's the luck-of-the-draw with this company. If they were consistently good they would've had me buying for a lifetime. Good luck!

Chemical Flavor??? No return policy?
These nuts taste like pesticide, paint and or solvent? I cant identify the flavor because I have never ate paint, solvent, or pesticide spray. But these nuts have a strong, unpleasant, unnerving flavor, I dare not eat more and am disturbed that they were in my mouth. I started to return them and I got the message unreturnable item. Really?! I have never, ever, had an item refused to return from Amazon. So apparently you can buy a product that appears Rancid, contaminated and unedible pand you are just out the money. Seems like a very unethical and poor businesses practice to me.
