McGard 64012 Chrome Bulge Cone Seat Style Lug Nuts (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) - Set of 4

I bought these McGard lug nuts to replace the worthless OEM two-piece lug nuts that came on our Ford Escape. I got hit with a $180 bill to replace "swollen lug nuts" at my dealership. How do lug nuts "swell"? That happens when you use a two-piece design in order to try to match the aluminum finish on the wheel. The lug nuts "swell" from moisture, road salt and repeated stress from impact tools. The McGard lug nuts are triple-chrome plated, solid steel, one-piece lug nuts that have a lifetime warranty. If you have two-piece lug nuts, get rid of them now and get some lug nuts you won't have to replace, and that won't leave you with a wheel you can't remove to fix a flat!

I wanted to take a wheel off, but one of the lug nuts was mangled and I couldn't get the wrench on it. I was ready to buy a nut remover tool, but looking on the internet, I found that the nuts were "two piece", a regular steel nut covered by a shiny thin trim piece, which caused the problem. One other tire had one of these that was also mangled. If you have a flat tire, you won't be able to do anything about it, you'll have to get a tow. I was able to get them off by using a narrow chisel on each of the six sides, sort of peeling them down, then using a longnose to bend them back and forth until the metal fatigued enough to break off at the base. Very tedious. Then a smaller socket removed them easily. Since these junky OEM nuts could cause a dangerous roadside situation, I replaced all of them immediately. I don't know when the several manufacturers started this poor idea, or if they still do it this way, but if you have them, get rid of them. The McGard units are perfect replacements, high quality, solid, with excellent plating.

Put these on your GM car before you realize you need them. The standard lug nuts on most GM cars have a stainless steel outer cap pressed over a regular lug nut. Your service tech will crack them with their impact wrench. In northern climates, the lug nut corrodes and expands the stainless cap to the point where they often split and your lug nut wrench no longer will fit on them. Dealing with that is a nuisance I do not care to repeat. I replace these on all my cars. The chrome finish is top quality and oldest set I have is 5 years old with no sign of corrosion. They are heavy duty for sure and worth the money. If you only keep a car for 4 years, forget about it and let the next owner deal with it haha.

Perfect fit replacement on our 2014 Ford Escape for the poorly engineered original equipment. Your original lug nuts will distort with repeated tire rotations and you may end up like us with a flat to change but the factory lug wrench won't fit the distorted originals! Best $60 preventative purchase I have ever made to eliminate a future problem. Be sure you use a six point socket with these. I torqued mine to 100 lbs. 2/11/17 update Am sad to report that in the few months since the install several of these lug nuts have started to rust, thus have removed one star. Given the cost and positive reviews I am really disappointed...sigh.

Can’t understand my the ones that look like these the OEM use on new vehicles are not like these solid nuts. The older the oem ones get the case of the not gets damaged and can fall off. Looking like crap. These won’t do this being one piece. this is not tight enough. I’m sorry.

I got these to replace the ones that were broke and I realized that they're just caps that go on over the lug nuts . But it made it to where that it was more durable and scratch proof and it was rust resistant which help keep my lug nuts in better shape and they're easy to install.

I bought 5 sets of these to replace the 2 piece lugnuts on my wifes 2017 Ford Escape Sport with the Black 19" wheels. I had read about the 2 piece OEM lugnuts bulging and swelling so I checked the Escape, most of them I could still get a 19 socket on them but most needed a lot of force. So I decided it was best to just replace them. Read lots of reviews and decided on McGard, mostly because they are 1 piece and guaranteed for life not to rust. So when they arrived, I was disappointed to find all the packages had what appeared to be rust on the inside, all at the same points. Before I even opened the package I called McGard. They asked if it was a brownish color at two spots in the packaging all at the same spots. I said yes exactly. They said that they use a chemical to test the lugnuts that discolors the packaging. I said ok I would check them. I opened the packages and gave a quick wipe to each one with a paper towel. All appear shiny and in great shape. I did look inside and most had the same brownish rust looking coloring on the inside in the ends. If they do rust, they are supposedly guaranteed for life... We will see how they hold up. So, long story short, I asked McGard, they said it was normal and not rust. The outsides look great. I will put them on and see how they hold up. If they do rust or have any other issues I will update the review, but they look great so far.

So far, really nice nuts. Good fit on the threads, torque up nicely, look sharp. Sounds like you just don't hammer them with impact tools.
