excellent little cleaner
We use a carpet cleaner several times a week, thanks to having 3 occasionally messy cats. For years we've used a large stand-up cleaner with a wand attachment, but it was so noisy, bulky, and difficult that we really needed something smaller. After reading reviews we chose this cleaner, and I am glad we did! My main concern was that the smaller cleaner wouldn't do as good of a job as the large stand-up we have, but it is just as good, no question. It has excellent suction and the brush it comes with really works. For normal cat spots on the carpet it's just fine. It hasn't worked well on tomato sauce or really liquidy cat spots (yuck), but I have to tell you the stand-up unit didn't work on those spots either! You'll need to use some cleaner that soaks overnight and elbow grease for the really tricky stains. It's better than the stand-up cleaner because it's much easier to clean out when we're done -- our large unit gets all kinds of nasty inside the tank and there's no way to take it apart to clean it. Yuck! The Bissell however can easily be cleaned out using running water, and the brush is detachable and cleans up well. The Bissell is also better than the stand-up unit with a wand because it is smaller, less noisy, and there is no cord to get in the way. The charge lasts a good long time. Just last night we used it for nearly 15 minutes with hardly any loss of power. We don't exactly use it the way the instructions say, though, so I feel for accuracy I should explain what we do: We use the cleaner (and we really like the Little Green it came with) in a spray bottle, diluted per instructions. We fill the tank on the back with hot water only. We then spray the spot on the carpet with hot water from the SpotLifter, spray with the diluted cleaner, let sit for a minute, then then use the Bissell SpotLifter to spray hot water on it again and suck up the solution from the carpet. It works great! My only complaints (if you could call them that) are that the return tank doesn't hold much, and when it gets too full it sometimes splashes out some of the dirty water from the side vents. Once you realize that's what's going on you can control it, but it is a little annoying. Also, the spray from the tank occasionally gets blocked by bubbles or something and it won't spray when you first start the machine. This is one of the best products we've purchased in a long time. I highly recommend it. Update: As of March, 2011, we're still using this cleaner and it still works well. After 2 years of use, the tank is pretty dirty inside and it's difficult to clean. I've soaked it in hot water with bleach and with detergent, but there is still grime collecting in the harder to reach spots in the tank. The best way to get rid of these spots is to get a little hot water in there and tilt the tank until the water sits on those grimy spots, then shake vigorously. It knocks some of it loose. So far the battery is still working, although it does not hold a charge as long as it used to, which is understandable. I've found running the battery down (but not all the way) helps in the charge. For the price, this has been a terrific purchase.

Great buy
Bought it because I have an 8 week old puppy, and it's been worth its weight in gold. The water it pulls up is disgusting and brown, and these carpets are so ancient and dirt-trapping (not to mention they've had a prior dog that soiled inside regularly,) it's taking multiple passes to come clean. But unless you have ancient carpet in a leased house, it does the charm perfectly (we have new carpet in the rooms, and this thing finishes the job in one or two passes tops) Suction is great, the floor is left with a dampness on par with a real floor cleaner, and its size is compact enough to fill the job described very well. It has murdered old feces stains over a year old from the previous tenant's dog, and the only complaint I have about this is that it leaves spots that were filthy looking cleaner than the rest of the carpet! I'm going to have to eventually do my entire house with this little bugger. I do somewhat wish it was corded, however, because 7 minutes of time is just not really worth it for a 12 hour charge. I'd prefer to have a little more time to make multiple passes and ensure a good cleaning. The only cons are it doesn't hold much cleaning fluid at all, and the resevoir is also small. But if all you're doing is making two or three passes over a single spot, it's perfectly adequate. As for removing the tank, it's quite easy. The button is initially hard to press, but I do like that feeling of "it won't come loose anytime soon." Also, putting it back in is a snap. I don't know how anyone can complain about this. Sure, it doesn't have runway lights and a little man flagging your approach, but just set the bottom lip inside and click it in. It's not rocket science. Anyone who got it spitting fluid out of the motor fans was grossly overfilling it. The tank has a FILL LINE, and it's a bit bigger than the fluid resevoir (allowing you to pre-treat with fluid outside of the built-in method.) So sure, if you try to refill the storage tank without emptying the dirty water tank, you'll get water spit out. Boo-hoo for people who use appliances improperly. I'm knocking off a star because I just feel like it would do an even better job if it had the option of a cord, or corded model, as well as cordless. All the other corded models are twice as expensive, too. If it was corded, it could possible integrate a brush, as well. As it stands, the brush has to be removed and used by hand, but it's very easily popped in and off, and stays secure. And somehow it just feels like it could do better on the battery life. A few usage tips: it does come with fluid, so you aren't REQUIRED to buy some (I bought some pet specific bissel concentrate that works amazingly well) and make sure you pre-treat the area (It says to pre-treat by turning it on and using the spray button, but I find this to be too big a risk on the battery life. I just used the suggested ratios of the machine's cleaning fluid and water in a spray bottle and simply use that first) and give it a very light scrub with the brush to knock soil loose. Then make sure you press the machine into the spot very firmly as you move it across the carpet, if you want the best suction (remember, it doesn't have the bulk of a large room cleaner already, it needs some help from you) I'd also suggest against storing fluid in it. You'll get much better results filling it when you need it with hot water and concentrate. Cold water cleaning is just not as effective. But overall, If you have kids, or light carpet that stains easily, or pets (even older pets track mud in once in a while) then this little machine makes mincemeat of small jobs that would otherwise take a long time to deal with, without breaking your back. All in all, if you're on a budget (like me) then this little guy performs valiantly and will save you hours. But if you do have the disposable income, I'd suggest one of the $100-$150 corded spot cleaners, because they will do the job in a little more refined manner. This machine is worth every penny they ask for it, but it is missing just a few small points of refinement that would make it an undisputed champion among household cleaning tools.

Great little spotlifter
I purchased the Bissell Spotlifter because we have a new puppy. I had owned the old model about ten years ago (with another new puppy and a kitty who hacked up hairballs). The old one finally quit taking a charge, so I ordered this one. So far, I am very pleased with the unit. It has been a lifesaver as we are going though all the "oops" moments of house training our puppy..and there have been quite a few "oopses", unfortunately. My husband recently dumped a good amount of orange drink on the carpet. Rather than dragout our big Bissell, I tried using this cordless handheld..it worked like a charm. I sucked up as much of the spill as I could before hitting the spot a second time. For the second pass, I sprayed on the cleaning solution, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then sucked it up. You absolutely cannot tell that anything was ever spilled in that spot. The solution tank is easy to fill, with a line marked for the amount of solution (a small bottle of solution comes in the package). Then you just add water up to the fill line and drop back onto the top of the unit. It seems to have a longer lasting charge than my old machine, and I haven't run out of power while using (but also haven't cleaned large areas of carpet). There is a small removable brush located in the base of the unit that can be used to work the cleaning solution in..when done, simply rinse the brush and snap back into the storage slot. Learning to dump the dirty water was a bit challenging, as you have to snap off a plastic piece in front of the unit, then turn a little knob and remove the knob to drain. I finally figured out to hold the dirty water storage section right at the edge of the sink, hold down the release button and pull out. This part could have been designed a little better, but at least the dirty water tank is always on securely. Overall, I'm very happy with this product. It has been a lifesaver during housetraining, but I know I will continue to use after the housetraining is over (if that ever happens..ha!).

NOT WORTH your money
After reading multiple reviews for a few different machines, I decided to go with this one because none of the machines seemed to have fantastic reviews and this machine was cheaper than the rest. Well I REALLY wish I had saved my money! -It takes 24 hours to charge completely (So says the manual but it doesn't have a light or any indicator to tell you when it is fully charged), it lasts 15 minutes- FIFTEEN MINUTES people- before it has to be charged again. This is not enough time for me to do all 6 of my dining room table chairs. -The water sprayer is not impressive. I don't know if I just got a defective machine or if they are all lousy, but mine spurts out water inconsistently sometimes drenching my furniture/rug and sometimes leaking out only a few water droplets. -It is terribly DIFFICULT to clean out all the dirty water when you are done with it. TERRIBLY difficult. The dirty water tank is full of nooks and crannies for dirty water to pool in and you can't place the tank at any angle to let the water drain out. You can shake it and set it in the sun to dry out but I just think it is a poor design. -It doesn't suck water out very well and my stains come out easier if I just scrub them with elbow grease. I am rather disappointed in this machine. I might not feel so bad if it only cost me 10 dollars but it definitely wasn't worth 40+shipping. Save up for a higher quality machine or use a rag+stain remover+elbow grease and you will save a lot of money and frustration!

Good performance - short-lived battery, and can't run off the outlet.
I bought this to clean a couch and a carpet, because I didn't see the use in spending much more for a full-sized unit. It does a pretty good job. However, it has some design flaws: - Battery life is about 15 minutes. This would be a non-issue, except: - You CANNOT run it off the charging cord. It will not deliver enough current to actually run the motor. If you run out of gas halfway through a cleaning job, you had better be okay with waiting until TOMORROW to finish, because it won't run off the cord and it charges very slowly. In my opinion, this was an extremely stupid design choice and needlessly hobbles the usefulness of this product. Bissell, spend the extra 50 cents on a better power solution so we can run this thing for 20 or 30 minutes or however long we want. The first time this thing ran out of charge, and wouldn't run even when plugged in, I realized that someone responsible for designing this didn't put enough thought into it. Yes, it is intended for spot cleaning and small objects, but a lot of people buy these because they don't want to drop $400+ just to clean a few things in their house. (Hint: Lots of these people have hardwood floors.) - You sometimes have to pre-treat the area by spraying it down, but there is no way to run the sprayer independently of the suction motor, so you can easily waste 1/3 of the battery on just that. If the pump ran on a tiny high-efficiency motor that could be turned on separately, it would be a lot better. To clean an ENTIRE rug or an ENTIRE sofa in one shot is difficult, to say the least. It keeps running out of battery power... and again... plugging it in doesn't help at all.

Terrible Product!
WE purchase this product in November 2017 based on the product description. In addition, we ordered three large bottles of the cleaning fluid to use with it. Our cat weekly spits up hairballs; we talked with the vet and asked her how we could reduce this problem. WE changed food and got hairball control medicine we use regularly. The spi ups were less frequent, however every time she did we cleaned the area in 6 hours or less. We used this machine every time for eight months. In no case did it really clean the carpet! We decided to purchase a Hoover Pet Stain remover from Amazon. It arrived in late spring and we used it immediately. WE were amazed how well it cleaned up the same stains as the Bissell. WE purchased new carpeting for our entire house last year with pet stain treatment. Until we obtained the cat the carpet vacuumed beautifully. We thought we could protect the carpet with the Bissell, we could not. During the time we had the Bissell, we had the carpet cleaned twice @ $125. With a freshly cleaned carpet, we tried the Bissell again, the results were the same as our previous trials. WE decided to purchase new pet Carpet Cleaner and spoke with the People from whom we purchased the carpet to get their recommendation. They quickly recommended the Hoover we recently purchased from Amazon. It works well! Yea! Now we are stuck with this inadequate Bissell, can you help us? Thanks. Lok forward to hearing from you,

15 minutes usage time from 16 hours charging
I picked up this cleaner for my apartment because I thought a smaller one would be less likely to make a lot of noise and earn me a complaint from the neighbors. I wasn't expecting to deep clean my entire 1500 square foot apartment, but when this says its for spots it means it. I have some stains on the carpet near my kitchen from heavy traffic so I thought I would make a Saturday project of getting them up. I had left the unit charging overnight, so I thought it would work for a small area. The suction is pretty decent, but after only 15 minutes of use the battery completely died. I went to check the box that I had yet to throw away only to find that the maximum promised battery life was in fact 15 minutes. It also mentioned that if the unit has completely died it can take up to 16 hours to recharge. You are also not supposed to use the unit while plugged into the charger. I acknowledge that I should have been more thorough when reading the description of this product, as the 15 minute use is in there. However even for a cleaner that is designed only for minor spot treatment I think that 15 minutes of use is ridiculous for such a large charging time. For a nearly $50 unit it seems as though the battery could do better than that for 12+ hours of charging. I'm seriously disappointed. A few pros: This machine is quiet, even quieter than a typical vacuum. The cleaning solutions work well and the suction power is decent. Overall, only buy this machine if you literally only intend to use it for occasional spots and are fine with charging it for the majority of your life. Also for $50 you could surely get something that would be less of a pain in the ass.

As favorite uncle would say, "Handy little gadget."
Reviewing the Bissell Spotlifter 2X and the Bissell SpotClean (the larger of the two). Since we use both, I’ve reviewed both, here. Our reason for getting these two appliances is our “urpy” cat. (We’ve threatened to change his name to “Wyatt Earp” :->) It was either spend a few dollars here or re-do the floors in wood. Our carpets are professionally cleaned every couple of years. Then we use these two small appliances in the interim. We definitely agree with other reviewers: the cleaning solutions are amazing even on old stains. The Spotlifter is nice and small and stored in our laundry room with only water in the reservoir. Since “Wyatt” has a knack for getting sick just as we’re heading out the door, this gives us a chance to grab-and-go. We don’t use cleaning solution unless the ‘spill’ is very bad, because the scrubbing pad on this one comes off too easily to scrub. We find the Spotlifter to be just that … something to lift quickly and be on our way. (Also, it’s small enough you can do this and then leave it at the spot as a marker to return to. Then see if you need to do more with the SpotClean.) We like the Spotlifter, but I found it difficult to remove the collections tank. It’s very wide for my hand and you must press a button while lifting it off. Hubby can do it. I cannot. [EDIT TO THE PREVIOUS STATEMENTS, JANUARY 22, 2016: I found a way to easily remove the collections tank: grab the "lip" at the bottom front at the same time you depress the button at the top of the tank. Pull at the 'lip.' A cinch!] The water/solution tank is very easy to fill (but a little difficult for me to pull off ... wide for my hand). Don’t be fooled by the end of the tube being out of the water. This tank feeds from the bottom. I think the tube is there simply to equalize pressure. When there’s a big mess and we must scrub, we use the SpotClean. It is very easy to put together and use. We found it difficult to remove the float stack (the big grey ‘tube’) inside the dirty water tank, although it is suggested you do so to empty water quickly. It’s hard only because it’s in there so tightly to get a proper seal. Getting it back in place to marry up with the holes on the main appliance was also difficult. Both tanks have a smaller hole you can use to dump, but it takes a while for it all to dry out. We don’t put the unit back together, for storage, until it’s totally dry. The instructions don’t say to do that, so I suppose you could put it away wet. By the way, these are both amazingly quiet. However, when we're cleaning the SpotClean – and it's on a counter instead of the carpet - I use earplugs! During normal use (and sitting on the carpet), there’s no problem.

Two Stars
Doesn't hold a charge anymore. Would not buy again.

Ideal for smal spills
This is the second one of these devices that I have owned. The first lasted a good number of years with the batteries finally not taking a charge. It had been so useful with dealing with things like pet accidents around the house that I had no hesitation in buying a second one. It has a powerful suction and deals effectively with small liquid spills and using it's own spray on more solid matter has proved effective on preventing stains etc. Portable and powerful is how I would describe this device.

Excellent cleaner
Works better than stain removers and a lot easier to use and store than a full size carpet cleaner. Would strongly recommend to pet owners.

Very good on carpets
Thiis works very well on carpets, especially if you treat the stain quickly. Being a highly portable unit i also use it on upholstery and here is where I mark it down a star because it doesn't suck up the cleaning fluid very well on anything but carpet. Battery life could also be improved, you only get 15 minutes of power for several hours of charge. However this is still a useful tool if you have lots of spillages and as we have a young baby that is the case with us!

Waste of Time
I bought this product to use on carpet pet stains. I do not see any difference between using the Spotlifter and just going at it by hand with a brush and some good carpet cleaner. Firstly, the manual states it only holds 15 minutes of charge. There is no light to indicate that it is charging, that it is fully charged or if the battery is about to use up its charge. Next, the brush is just that - nothing special, doesn't move or rotate. This means a lot of elbow work with a brush that is attached to a machine filled with water which is a lot harder than doing it by hand. It does suck up some water but not much. Save your time and money and look for something else as this is a scam.
