The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland Paperback – August 14, 2003

Our book club selected this. I loved the way the author laid out the book in days. His descriptions of the people and the town folks made me feel like I knew them. Given what is going on in our world today I am glad that the people of Newfoundland were there for this horrific event. We must never forget!

Definite Pro: This books shows us that when we all do our part and come together, beautiful things happen even in a broken world. It reminds us that we can all do small acts that-added together-give great hope and love.Con: The only negative I have to share is that, from the start, it was a lot of different people to keep up with. Even so, the author did a great job telling individual stories for many different people.

This book was recommended by a friend. I plan to see the production,come from away,and my friend said read the book first. I finished it in a day and a half. You will fall in love with many of the characters, both the plane people and the newfies.

This was quite an uplifting story regarding a US tragedy however it was kind of boring after a while. I was happy to hear about anything positive about 9/11, after a while, o was glad the book ended.

I probably wouldn't have chosen this book to read had it not been selected for a discussion group.I learned so much about the people of Gander who gave of themselves on 9/11 and the following days. Overall the book was an uplifting feel-good book even though it involved such a tragic historical event. It also made for a very good discussion in the book group.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the different stories that people went through during their time in Newfoundland. In addition to all the people who were plunked in Gander, Newfoundland, the town folks heeded the rally call to go above & beyond to try and make the passengers feel comfortable. The stories are endless to what the town’s people did to help in any way possible that they could. They sacrificially were there in all ways possible. What would you do? What would I do?
