Can this be used on carpet, to raise a printer off the floor? Or would it still be too hot despite the ventilation holes?

I cannot give a informed reply as I do not know what type or size of printer you have. The monitor stand is sturdy and for the average sized inkjet printer it it would improve airflow around the printer with the holes in the platform. Any electrical equipment that generates some heat should have adequate airflow for cooling. My inkjet however sits on my desk and does not generate excessive heat but I would not place it directly on a carpeted surface.
