I wish this bakery wouldn't use waxed paper to wrap around the cake. I've tried to peel the wrap off and it tears easily and all that chocolate frosting comes off the cake and is very difficult to scrape off the wax paper and I'd say about 75% of the frosting is lost to waste and these cakes aren't as flavorful to enjoy...

I was hoping for a good, NY-authentic, 7 layer cake. But I was disappointed to find it unsatisfying. Being born and raised in the Bronx, I think I know what the standard is supposed to be; and have had some shipped to me from NY to my home in Virginia in the past; by other bakeries, with good results. This cake was delivered on time; but it obviously was bounce around, and all the chocolate frosting was stuck on the plastic container. That didn't bother me that much, since I was able to "reassemble" (ugly but still tasty). BUT, I found the "cake part" to be dry and not very tasty (it didn't seem fresh enough, even accounting for shipping time). Most disappointing, the crème filling between layers was almost non-existent. I will not re-order.

They were delicious

I grew up on Long Island and always got a 7-layer cake for my birthday.The bakery I used to order them from no longer mails anything. See the picture I included.This cake had the closest flavor I've found to the LI cakes. The one good thing was that it didn't have the dry regular cake layers, but used pound cake for the layers.In spite of this, the cake was on the dry side.The layers, the filling, and the frosting need to be thicker and moister. See the accompanying picture. Sprinkles on top with a little mound of frosting with a maraschino cherry on top.What I received was sort of midway between a 7-layer cake and a Dubosh Torte.It did have the lighter chocolate filling and the chocolate buttercream frosting.

The cakes arrived in excellent condition however, when I served them to my guests, they said they tasted odd which I agreed once I tried them. The cake itself was ok however the filling has an off taste to it, does not taste like chocolate/cocoa. We tried this brand this year, but will go back to the Swiss Colony tortes. Not a fan favorite and pricey for their taste.

Order this for my brother’s birthday, always a treat.. everyone enjoys it!
