Rainforest

Thomas Marent is an amazing photographer who has put together 360 pages of absolutely beautiful and incredible photos, as well as documenting (deftly written by Ben Morgan) the journey and his encounters across four continents and a vast archipelago (Australasia) of rainforests. The animal and flora wildlife he captures on film leap out of the pages with stunning color and clarity. I don't usually go in for "coffee table books" and this is heavily sized for that medium, but RAINFOREST is actually a book you will want to read so pump some iron while you are waiting for it to arrive. Marent spent 16 years taking the perfect images he has used in this book and two others (Butterfly and Frog), which I dearly wish would be read and enjoyed by everyone on the planet because if you care about the earth and our ecosystems and the health of our planet, these photographic journeys could inspire thousands to make the necessary changes to keep this beauty protected and thriving.As far as being "written" (Ben Morgan), the story is nicely captured in series of paragraphs associated with the visuals, and the occasional page-long discussion in each chapter. Succinctly, it is a vibrantly living grand story delivered in short monologues with hundreds of gorgeous photographs. Read it or just look at it, either way, a triumphant book that far exceeds the expectant coffee table where some volumes just sit and collect dust.

This book is magnificent!! The author have done a tremendous job of capturing the most amazing photos of the rain-forests of the world! And the best thing about this book is that is packed w/ info and best of all it has a CD of rainforest sounds that is beautiful to listen to and relaxing enough to meditate by. Everyone that visits can't help themselves and sits down to look at the book which I keep on my coffee table.The only thing I was disappointed w/ was that it has been obviously 'looked through' and 'handled' by someone before it was packed and shipped, and several of the 'shiny' pages were 'marked' w/ fingerprints which spoiled the experience some, since I would have been careful not to put in any type of hand/finger mark ~skin oils~ on the pages for preservation sakes.

I really like this book, I found it in a waiting area a few years ago and made a note in my phone that I need to get it one day. I finally remembered at the same time that I was shopping on Amazon and found a used option....it's now looked at almost daily by my 3.5 twins asking "what's that, what's that?!!". Super entertaining and educational .

This book is AWESOME!!! Every page contains FULL PAGE photographs of the most BEAUTIFUL photography of rainforests (and the creatures that live there) that I have ever seen! The author includes a description of each photograph so you will know what you are looking at. There is also a map showing all the rainforests from all over the world! It made me want to quite my job and go work in the rainforest somewhere, that is, until I saw the picture of the photographer up to his waist in a swamp, covered in mud. He's practically dedicated his life to rainforests. The photography is very inspiring. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!

This is a great photo book to have around. There is always something new to discover in the many images. It is also nice that they include a short description for each picture.Do not expect it to be an ecyclopedia on the Rain Forest. It is just a great book of pictures with a few facts included to increase your enjoyment.

Great photography. Good conversation starter. Nice coffee table book. I had been watchin gthis item at bookstores for awhile before I purchased. Glad I did.

The most beautiful full-page pictures I have ever seen. Not like a dictionary with small pics and blurbs. Huge full-page pictures and little comments from the photographer. Must have!!

According to my order the book was supposed to have a cd with it also was supposed to have a book jacked cover. Where is the cd?

I would echo what the other 5 star reviewers has said. A good weighty book packed full of brilliant photography, especially the macro work. You can see there's been a lot of sweat and tears gone into producing this.I bought this for my 8 year old as they where covering the subject of rainforests at school, needless to say the teacher leapt on it to show the rest of the class.

熱帯雨林の様々な風景や、そこに住む昆虫、動物、鳥、草花など、てんこ盛りです。どの写真も一枚一枚が素晴らしく、一冊を見終わるのに多くの時間を費やします。（これはとてもいい意味で、です！！！）中身の分からない本を買うのは躊躇しますが、この本に関しては買う価値ありです！！とにかく写真がたくさん載っていますし、きれいです。接写したものが多いので、小さな昆虫の表面のテクスチャーも見てとれます。正面から撮ったものなどは、思わず息を呑む美しさや気持ち悪さ、様々な感情を呼び起こします。興味の対象が風景だけであったり、昆虫だけであったり、鳥だけであったりした場合は、それぞれが少ないと感じることがあるかもしれませんが、そうでない場合は、この膨大な写真の量と、一枚一枚の質の良さ、新たな世界の発見に感動すると思います。本当にお勧めできる一冊です。
