Hopefully it lives up to the long battery life listed but will be great not having to worry about the batteries running out so frequently. Installation was a breeze as you don't need to even plug them in, being fully battery operated. You can just put them anywhere with a few simple screws (included with drywall anchors). The ones I installed chirped just fine when holding the test button. There is a small red LED that flashes every several seconds though. I suppose this is to let you know it's doing its thing. It's actually a little brighter than expected. Hopefully It never gets used but great having a well known company behind the units. They are shipped in plain builders boxes for those that reviewed them being fakes. The units themselves are exactly what was expected and pictured, from First Alert. Maybe it would be helpful on the page to have this better pointed out to not catch people off guard. Overall great product for great price. Some of those fancy ones are nice but just so expensive, and then issues with the app's over the years are no fun. Some things are just better simple.

I ordered several of these to replace older First Alert smoke detectors. Many reviews say these are knockoffs and say BRK brands. BRK is First Alert! Why don’t people research before ordering and leaving bad reviews. Yes the box does not say First Alert and seems generic but the detectors do. See picture. The mounts are exactly matching the old ones I took down so each one took all of 2 minutes to install and loosening a couple screws. I did not have to replace the screws or anything. Loosen the screws, slide the old mount off, replace with the new mount, and tighten the old screws. I thought this would be an hours long project patching holes and drilling new ones but it was a few min project. For the price even if the batteries last 5 years it paid for itself in the battery cost savings. Hopefully I get the full 10 years out of them. The manual also says they have a 10 year warranty which I filed away. I am very pleased.

IT IS DIFFICULT RATING ITEMS WHEN A BATTERY IS INVOLVED AND THEY ASK ABOUT ITS BATTERY LIFE. IN THIS CASE IT ASKS ABOUT BATTERY LIFE OF A 1O YEAR BATTERY WHEN YOU FIRST RECEIVE IT. I THEREFORE RATED THE BATTERY LIFE AS AVERAGE CONSIDERING IT WILL LAST THE 10 YEARS. THE INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONS IS SIMPLE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS. THIS DETECTOR CAN BE INSTALLED ON THE CEILING OR A WALL AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDED IT TO JUST BE INSTALLED AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE AND NOT IN THE KITCHEN OR GARAGE. MY GAS HEATER FURNACE AND GAS HOTWATER TANK IS LOCATED IN OUR ATTIC SO I POSITIONED THESE DETECTORS NEAT THE BLOWER VENTS. I POSITIONED ONE IN EACH HALLWAY OUTSIDE ALL BEDROOMS. ALWAYS HAD BETTER LUCK WITH FIRST ALERT SMOKE DETECTORS SO I BOUGHT THESE FOR SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE. I PURCHASED THREE AT FIRST TO VALIDATE THEY WERE AS DESCRIBED AND JUST ORDERED TWO MORE. I RECOMMEND THEM BASED ON ABOVE.

This smoke sensor was so easy to setup I laughed. If you can use the same screw anchors as your old sensor, this install will take about five minutes. Easy to read instructions, and best of all, no need to remember to change your battery every six to twelve months because these products have a “10 year” battery life! And the cost is relatively inexpensive. Best of all, the sensor will pay for itself the first two years you use it because of not having to pay for all those darn batteries! I highly recommend this product because of ease of installation and setup, cost savings and for keeping you from having to climb a ladder every 6 months. These are great for seniors too!

I love these to avoid battery replacement every 9-15 months! I had installed the double AA battery alarms because I thought they would be easier than 9v and just got so sick of the batteries failing in my rental units and getting calls about the chirping. Since I had the double A First Alert units I've been able to maintain the base from the originals and didn't even need to drill and anchor those in. I 100% recommend anyone using any 9v or AA or other standard battery unit change to a 10-year to save one more piece of their life from needless battery changing tasks. Best part is these pay for themselves over the life of the unit since I'm not feeding them batteries.

Excellent product beeps when the backup battery runs down

Purchased two of these Smoke Alarm with 10-Year Sealed Tamper-Proof Battery for my sister. When I pulled two alarms out from her newly purchased condo, they only had two wires and they didn’t seem to be doing nothing. Instead of dealing with wiring, I decided to get her these. They were very easy to install and they have a very loud sound to them. The price was good and the product is excellent. Just what was needed.

Why is it not working? I’m literally holding smoke near it. The test alarm indicates it’s working but it’s not reacting to such intense smoke.
