I really enjoy having this necklace on all the time due to the comfort it gives knowing I have a fire starter on me. I HAVE started a fire with it to see if it really works and it passed with flying colors. Other than that I keep it on me for emergencies due to the fact that it is a rather small starter. On their website, the company offers replacements for the starter and ceramic, so even if you do use it often it's a simple fix to replace the parts. The ceramic starter does have a plastic look to it, but once you touch and use it you can tell it is super durable and high quality ceramic. The leather is also high quality and softens the more you wear it. I did scratch it up a bit when I was striking the rod and I also noticed that where the ceramic sits, the leather is worn and stripped on that particular section. However, the leather is still durable and it adds a nice look to it. Some have said that the leather smells if you shower with it, but I have not had this problem. In fact, it absorbs the soap smell and has a pleasant smell. I will also be oiling it to keep the quality up as is recommended in the video they send you. Next, the style of it is just perfect. You can literally wear it with ANYTHING you own and it will compliment your outfit perfectly. I have recieved a lot of compliments on it and they increase when people learn it has a practical use as well. As you can tell, I really like this necklace and I WILL be buying another one in the future as a backup. I highly recommend it, especially if you are an outdoors person. It is well worth the price and I wouldn't even mind paying more for it due to its high quality.

Excellent product. Please ensure you notice the maximum allowable expansion to get around your neck. Most necks will be fine. The manufacturer indicates the cord is free of harmful substances such as mercury, lead, etc. As noted by others, the scraper is NOT plastic. It is indeed a ceramic scrapper, and does the job wonderfully. Some people are forgetting or don't know that the ferro rod must be scrapped first, to remove the corrosive black covering. Once that material is gone, continue to use the scrapper to produce a spark. If you use a "striking" action you will get the result you need. This is a higher end necklace ferro rod, that is, because of the necklace material, it looks good around your neck, at least in my opinion. I have a few of the necklace ferro rods, and I wear this consistently under my shirt. It's definitely one of those items that you would wish you had if you were stranded somewhere. Also, I would only mention, this would not be your primary ferro rod. If it is, you are not preparing correctly. This is your back-up, or your back-up to your back-up. It's something to keep on your person in the event you are caught off-guard and have a fire source to fall back-on. It's small just for that reason: to keep on you. Plan accordingly.

This is a other home run for wazoo. Yes it works fantastic. I have over a dozen ferro fire rods for many applications. This tiny combo of ceramic and cerium works really well. For such a tiny and beautiful combo, it throws lots of Sparks. But beyond that, it looks and feel like authentic bush craft. It is a statement of interest and conversational as well as naturally attractive in presentation. I had one of the parachord serated metal neclass strikers, but I didn't wear cause it looked cheap and, well, I worried it would cut me under the wrong circumstances. I still have it, but this magic item is a work of functional art. It pairs well with the whetstone from wazoo and due to the adjustability of both high quality knotted leather chords, they fit nicely around my neck and now I'm off to the jungle. Seriously, this is one of those things you should treat yourself to if you value survival and natural adventures. It also looks great over a T shirt, or in the v of a collared shirt. Be who you are, and buy yourself one today. You may live to tell the tale.

I ordered 1 for my hard to please grandson, He adored it...and had to order another one for His Sister, who loved it too! And. I will be ordering another pretty soon for me. Havent' started any fire yet...but makes sparks nicely.

This is an excellent product. Since it is a survival product and is consumed somewhat by use, I bought 2 necklaces with the thought of trying one and saving the other to wear. I need'nt have worried. In using the device to start a fire, very little is consumed and there is no noticeable degradation/damage to the product. The appearance of the necklace is not affected by use. The necklace produces more than enough spark for a fire, and the manufacturer provides an excellent instructional video. The product is effective. The shipping was on time. The product is of a much higher quality than I had supposed. The leather is not rough, it is very well finished and I was impressed with the quality. I am very pleased and somewhat surprised by the appearance and quality of manufacture. And the effectiveness of the necklace in building a fire, assuming you have your fire properly constructed, is outstanding.

My son found this when he was looking for a birthday gift for my husband. They enjoy bushcrafting and camping and just exploring outdoors together. This was a fun gift--it looks a little like an arrowhead necklace or something like that, it's very light and comfortable and it works REALLY well. The sparks you can make with it are substantial.

For a person that spends any amount of time in the wilderness this is a must have piece of equipment. I used it the day after I received it all because my lighter got wet and I was to cold to wait for it to dry. In less then a minute I was warm. Thanks Wazoo.

It took a little bit longer than anticipate to receive my purchase but other than that I am happy with it.

I’m not a jewelry type of person, but my wife perched this for me for Xmas and I love it well made, looks great and the fire starter works well. Used it once to see if it was just a novelty but it’s great. Fallow the instructions video, striking the back of the rod so the front stays nice and they offer replacements if you wear it out.

Not worth the money. Do your research because there is other similar product that much better .
