END DVD Features -- Repeat play -- Language tracks (Spanish, French and English) -- Discovery cards -- "Old MacDonald" sing along -- Puppet shows -- Show time with Baby MacDonald on the farm desertcart.com The beauty of this entry in the Baby Einstein catalog is its integration of puppets, toys, and live farm footage to help babies and toddlers make the connection between their plastic play sets and stuffed animals with images of a real farm. As always, the spoken language is minimal, omitting the pesky verbs and adjectives that would confuse the very young. The 30-minute main program is divided into sections: barns and equipment, animals, planting crops, and harvesting. Background music ranges from "Old MacDonald" to Schumann, and DVD extras include a 6-minute puppet show and visual "discovery cards" identifying animals and farm paraphernalia with a single word. An excellent package with many ways to view the video!
Baby MacDonald is one of my favourite videos in the Baby Einstein collection. It takes little ones and toddlers on a field trip to the farm and introduces them to animals, food and more. I like the choice of classical music for this program, I personally think it fits the setting very nicely. I also like that this particular release (12 months and up) features a second viewing mode with added words at the bottom of the screen and extra puppet shows. Just select Mode 2 (Grow With Me) on the main menu. You can also watch 5 minutes or 10 minutes of the show at a time. My only complaint is that the 10 minute show is out of sync with the audio. The subtitles match the video (if you have them on), but the audio doesn't match what's going on at the time. Other than that, it's an excellent DVD release from Baby Einstein. I highly recommend picking it up!

Excellent for toddlers, and for parents to enjoy with them
I purchased this to watch with the little boy I babysat - he was 18 months old when I first played it. The DVD was watched again and again - I enjoyed it just as much as he did! I found that the segments of activity were timed just right for short attention spans; then the action and music flowed into the next "scene". The music was memorable, and the puppets were adorable. There was much about farm animals and planting to learn about; and there was humor, as well. This was definitely a favorite, and was not so lengthy that I felt we were parked in front of the TV too long.

The quality is outstanding
Our 15 month old grandson doesn't watch TV except for maybe 15-20 min here or there... so this is wonderful as they tell us to encourage imagination. When you don't live near any farm animals it's hard to give them toys resembling them as they just look like lumps of plastic. Certainly you can't expect them to use imagination. We can see what a difference this makes. He especially loves the horses. He bops along to Old McDonald and sings ee, I, ee, I, ooooh- he just loves it. I can see him growing with this as he starts to understand harvesting and where food comes from. It's delightful, wonderful music and color. The ony small downside is the rather long wait to run through the intro each time (copywrite warnings, etc), if someone figures a way to shorten that, once you'd seen it, that would be wonderful.

Baby MacDonald was a hit with my grandson!
I bought the DVD Baby MacDonald a Life on the Farm because I knew my 15 month old grandson loved watching the Baby Einstein segments on uTube. He is now almost 18 months old and is still mesmerized by the whole DVD- especially the part where the pigs splash down the slide into the mud! Baby Einstein DVD's are fabulous- I would recommend them for children of all ages because of the beautiful photography, music arrangements and soothing voice of the narrator! ***** 5 stars at our house!

My "Busy" Baby Will Finally Relax...
I tried getting my very "busy" 6 month-old daughter to rest a little to Baby Einstein while drinking a bottle or trying to eat. Her attention span is so short and she is a very active baby so determined to go to the next task. At 6 months she was crawling and moving about and I desperately needed something to keep her attention while eating, changing a diaper, or a bottle. I peronally was tired of the Baby Beethoven and Mozart, so I tried this one at 6 months. Too young....However, I tried again at 9 months and it works like a charm. She lays down on her boppy with a bottle and blanket for about 15 minutes while watching Baby MacDonald and falls asleep. If it wasn't for this DVD, I would be rocking, walking, and driving her to sleep each time. This is a lifesaver.***Neighborhood Animals is wonderful too***

Rated Ages 6 months to 24 months
The good things about this DVD are:1. The animals2. The farm scenes, especially the ones that show the various methods of ploughing the fields.3. The puppet skits don't repeat the same thing over and over again.4. The Old MacDonald song5. The song set to the Farmer in the Dell tune.6. The pigs sliding into the mud puddle.7. Has some good extras and not just flash cards and toy lists. The not-so-good things about this DVD:1. Too much of the music is slow, when it should be upbeat. Why plough to a lullaby?2. Younger children like it, but it's not easy adult viewing. This DVD puts me to sleep.3. Some of the content is for babies, some for toddlers, but as a whole it doesn't hold the interest over 24 months. My son is now too old for the Baby Einstein series, and it's time to move on. It's been a great three years, and definitely essential viewing for children.Thank you Baby Einstein, and goodbye.

The positives clearly outweigh the only negative, so other than that, it's an excellent DVD release from Baby Einstein. I highly recommend picking it up! Or if you don't have enough money, you can watch it for free on YouTube. The attached image is the DVD release I'm talking about.
