Fantastic unit, and a huge step up from 3018/3040 conversions
I was using a 3018 to 3040 converted machine for a couple years, and was absolutely plagued with the amount of play in everything, resulting in chatter and poor tolerances and etc. This unit is SO MUCH more solid than the units that run on tubular rails and move the workpiece up and down on the Y axis. Within the first hour of milling, I had a problem: The power wire to the motor burned. It turned out upon autopsy that one of the leads of the main power wire had been severed inside the insulation (and within the drag chain), probably during manufacture rather than just an hour of operation. That began arcing, the arcing melted the insulation as well as the neighboring wire's insulation, and the two shorted. I contacted SainSmart and they were very responsive, immediately shipped me an entire replacement drag chain assembly and a couple other parts that could have potentially been damaged due to the short, and followed up about how it worked. Definitely very well supported - the exact opposite of the first machine I used. In my opinion, if any one thing could be seriously improved (including by the user), it would be this main power wire. It's maybe 18ga in less-than-flexible insulation, and I would replace that with about 14ga flexible wire in silicone insulation plus an outer jacket. But I haven't had any issues with the replacement wire - I just think that could have been a bit better designed, and could be improved by you in your shop very easily. The drag chain has lots of extra space - mine is now also home to a small poly air line, as well as a 120vAC tool cord for the router, so you can stuff other lines of different types through the drag chain as needed, rather than having them dangling around the work area. If you've never assembled any desktop CNC before, you might think this is a pain to assemble. It's not. I was done in maybe 2 and a half hours. A surprising number of parts actually come pre-assembled, so that you only have to do maybe half or a third of the actual assembly in your own shop. I used a lot of thread locker. I don't know that this is necessary, but the fasteners are going to take a lot of vibration, so it's probably a good idea. It's been a pleasure to use. I've used it with the included 300w 48vDC spindle which is very good, a >1HP router, and a 10w laser. The machine has performed exceedingly well all the time. There's SO much more force in the stepper motors than the little 3018 devices (and the torque clutches have much, much higher thresholds), it makes milling completely different. I've milled soft woods, hard woods, acrylic, and a lot of aluminum on this so far. I expect I could probably mill some mild steel with a good carbide bit and a lot of patience, but I haven't tried that yet. I also added some little cardboard flaps on the left and right sides to keep dust and chip out from under the roller wheels for the Y axis. I don't know if they'd have issues rolling over debris, but it could potentially raise the gantry and mess up your Z axis, so I think it's probably smart to cover those with some dust deflectors.

An excellent CNC router
Unit arrived very well packaged. Easy setup, I suggest using blue loctite on all the screws. I use UGS to run this machine and Carveco Maker for design. The included 300W spindle is okay for engraving but if you want to cut or mill, the upgrade to a bigger motor is a necessity in my opinion. The ProverXL 4030 came with the dewalt dwp611 mount so you automatically save 65 bucks. I also installed the Foxalien remote switch so that the spindle turns on and off automatically. With the much more powerful dewalt motor cutting and milling are quite easy. This is an excellent machine to have if youāre looking to get into CNC work. Iāve had only one issue in about 150 hours of operation so far. I went to home the machine after completing a job and the Z axis failed to stop when the Z up limit switch actuated. I stopped the machine and after some brief troubleshooting determined that the Z limit wire harness had a broken wire. The switches both worked and the controller received the OPEN/CLOSED signal okay. I emailed SainSmart at 3 pm MST with a summary of the issue and by 6 pm I had received a response with an apology and a promise to send a new Z axis limit harness. They were out of stock but said they should be able to send a new wire harness within a week. True to their word they shipped me the new harness at no cost to me and the customer support rep, Joey, kept in touch throughout the process including checking in to insure i had shipping updates and confirmed delivery. Very easy install for the new wire harness and iām happily back to running my machine. I was disappointed I encountered this failure but the customer support was outstanding. If youād like to get into CNC routing, you canāt go wrong with the ProverXL 4030. Upgrade the spindle motor and get busy!

Absolute nightmare
Buy this if you want to spend the next three hours setting up the machine only to discover it won't work and then you get to spend another 45 minutes disassembling it and repackaging it to be returned. -The drivers don't work (Mac) -The USB stick provided (software and drivers) is type A (large USB) not USB-C so you need an adapter (not included) if you have a Macbook or newer computer. -Cable that connects the computer to the router is also USB-A. Macbook won't recognize device even with an adapter. -The instructions are absurd and just flat out wrong at times (have a look at them, Amazon posts a PDF). -Software programs like Easel aren't compatible. It's just a nightmare all around...

Great machine at a great value.
I love my CNC. It is well made and functions as designed. The instructions are slick and quite good, except, and be forewarned, the listing of screws included is somewhat mislabeled, I spent an hour thinking I used the wrong screws on some part of it because the instructions listed the wrong number of them should be included. Otherwise, I highly recommend it. It did take about 8 hours of assembly time and probably another 40 to fully learn how it functions.

Have had this some years now and just written review. There is a newer version which I can't comment on. But this one works well. Can earn money with it but needs time to learn how to use it.

De levering was zeer vlot. Er waren wat problemen met het toestel in de eerste dagen. Het contact met support was super en ze doen er dan ook alles aan om het probleem op te lossen. Zelfs nieuwe onderdelen versturen is geen probleem. Genmitsu rules!

Great machine out of the box! This is a heavy item and protected very well with its great packaging. Easily put together using the pictorial assembly manual. If you have some experience with CNC routers you will not have any problems using this machine. I already had the USB driver installed for a 3018 Pro so it wasn't necessary to redo this step. Everything comes supplied on a USB thumb drive including the Candle software for sending the G-code files to the machine. There is also a free subscription to get Carveco Maker software for project preparation. Since I already use another program for this I didn't take advantage of the free offer. First thing I did after assembly and powering up the machine was to manually trigger each of the X,Y,Z home/limit switches. Noticed there was a problem with the Y-axis switches not working. Checked these with my meter and all OK. In the end the problem was corrected by reversing the two wires going into the green Y-axis connector plug of the controller. Ran a homing cycle and we're all good to go! After running the machine for a while I was noticing the Y-1 side of the dual Y-axes had a slight wobble in its lead screw. Tried adjusting it out but nothing you can really do. First thoughts were the lead screw was bent? Decided to contact SainSmart service and explained the situation to them. Hong promptly got back, within a day, and asked if I could send a video clip to verify the wobble. From the video they confirmed the problem and would be sending out a new lead screw. In the mean time I asked Hong if he could provide any details for the replacement process. I was sent a link to download a video . . Very helpful, thanks! Around ten days later the new LS arrived. A quick roll on a glass table confirmed it was true. Did the same rolling test with the old one and it just rocked back and forth. Following their guide it took around an hour or so to install the new lead screw. It went well and was a pretty easy install. Everything goes in from the front side of the machine after removing that sides end plate. Can't say enough about the service from Sain Smart and Hong! They do stand behind their products and it's comforting to know help is on the way if needed! Polly
