The best in warmth and durability
I my opinion nothing compares to jackets made by Carhartt. In my opinion, nothing is warmer for everyday use. Made of premium and tough materials, and are very durable. I upgraded because I need a larger jacket. I also like that the jacket goes below the lower back which prevents chills , spasm, and cramps. There is an extremely heavy duty zipper, I just use it as casual wear. This is my third Carhartt, the first over 30 years old, the second around 9 years old, and hopefully this one will last the rest of my life. This was on sale, , and had a fast delivery. I learned about Carhartt from friends in the trades, as well as people in outdoor cold weather sports. This is just a great jacket for anyone. It’s not a flash jacket, but rather a warm and great fitting, and well constructed jacket. Highly recommended

and I think it's going to hold up nicely for a very long time
So here's the deal, I purchased this coat and the Carhartt Men's Extremes Arctic-Quilt Lined Coat, both in MEDIUM. I simply couldn't make up my mind and none of the stores in my area had either coat to make the comparison. I wanted to try them on and compare them side by side, so that's what I did. I'm going to start off by saying that they are the same style coat, both very rugged, both fit the same in the medium size. This coat, however, contains the same exterior rugged material as the traditional Carhartt coats (see Carhartt Men's Thermal Lined Duck Active Jacket J131) that I normally see people wearing on the job. I simply preferred this material, but in this style. After a few days, I sat down with the coat and realized that it was too constrictive in the chest/stomach section. I returned the MEDIUM duck-lined coat and purchased the LARGE. This is a perfect fit for me. This coat is heavy, thick, feels extremely warm, and I think it's going to hold up nicely for a very long time. It is a little stiff, but I know that over time with wearing and washing it, it will soften up a bit. I'm 5'-11, 180 lbs. The LARGE is just perfect for me. I also plan on ordering the arctic lined hood eventually. The zipper appears bullet proof and I love the flap that covers the zipper, with velcro. The cuffs built into the sleeves are awesome, and it should keep the cold out for sure. The reason I chose not to keep the Men's Extremes Arctic-Quilt Lined Coat over this one, is I just didn't like the new material. It's super stiff, loud during movement, and I just wanted the traditional exterior Carhartt material that's been around forever. I have no doubts that both coats will keep you warm while you work outside.

Made in the USA
////UPDATE: I've had the coat for two winters now, going in to my third, and I LOVE IT! No static charge like many quilted liners build up, the duck is holding up amazingly, all the stitching is still very solid. I wore this thing through Hurricane Irene digging a ditch to drain a field that was flooding, and after four hours of work in the rain the liner was still dry, even at the elbows. Very warm, too!\\\\ I followed the advice of some of the other reviewers and ordered a size up, which gave me a jacket that was considerably bulkier than I expected. I wear a 45T in a dress jacket, and am not a small man, but the extra large is broader across the chest than I strictly require. I'm okay with it, because it will allow me to layer heavily under the coat and not feel restricted when I zip the coat up, but the sizes on these jackets appear to run true to measure. The coat does tend to ride up when sitting down, but this is easily alleviated by grasping the wrists of the coat and using your elbows as fulcrums to bring the back of the jacket down before leaning back. The cotton duck is very heavy duty, and I am confident that it will be able to handle all the rough country I choose to throw at it. The quilted lining is thick and very warm. I don't know yet if it will build a static charge like many of these coats do. I love the pockets, as well. The inside left breast pocket is a single hook and loop fastener at the center of the pocket, while the inside right breast pocket is a zipper. Both inside pockets are large, measuring larger than 5" x 6". The outside pockets are the same size, with double hook and loop fastener, and the outside slash pockets are incredibly deep, although not especially warm since they aren't lined on the inside. The shrouded cuffs are a blessing, not so tight that they feel constricting but tight enough to keep the wind out and allow the jacket sleeves to be pushed up for especially dirty or wet work with the hands. Overall, I am incredibly pleased with the material, the fit, the quality of worksmanship and the appearance of the jacket, and I will be purchasing Carhartt in the future, although I don't anticipate it being any time soon.

Quality material, but way too much of it in this jacket
Granted, I tried ordering a J002 but unfortunately the company discontinued that a couple years ago and the only ones left are the extreme sizes. The company help line suggested the closest to the J002 was the M003, and I ordered that with the erroneous assumption that a large was a large and a tall was a tall. When the new jacket arrived, it was a good 6" longer than the other jacket, and the size was off by one, maybe two, seeming to be an XL or even an XXL. The return was quick and relatively painless, and I ordered a Medium Regular fit, which still is a bit too long, but close to the old one, and the chest and thigh fit are now about right. The deviation in fit from the other jacket was astounding. The quality is good, and it is a Carhartt material, but I would expect the dimensions within the same manufacturer would be far closer than what this one was. The extreme limited availability of anything from this company in my local stores which have carried this brand for a decade made trying on one locally, or purchasing one locally, impossible. The only items on the store racks were, again, XXXL or S and there were absolutely none in this style to be found at all. So whether I got a rare poorly fitted coat, or they were all that size, it is hard to know. Also it made doing a trial fit to make sure there was adequate but not excessive length and the waist and chest fit were right, was not possible. Great material. Great company. Screwy sizing right now and surely was inconsistent from one style to the next when it came to the concept of L and Tall.

Good jacket.
I wanted to write a review for this jacket because I wasn't sure what size to order when looking at the size chart. I weigh 310 pounds and am 6 foot 1 inch tall. I ended up ordering the 3XL tall size since that's what I wear in t-shirts and other clothes. This jacket is really big in the shoulders, but fits properly across my stomach and will zip up easily with no problem. Carhartt wear is really good quality. I was sort of disappointed that the jacket didn't come in their brown color -- it's sort of like a soil color or dirt color that's a medium-dark brown. That's the color I used to wear in their jackets. I've been using Carhartt for outdoor and work clothes since I discovered their brand at their downtown store in Seattle. I really like their work pants and jackets and this won't disappoint you. A lot of big and tall clothes you might be able to find locally are usually flimsy when it comes to outdoor wear and won't last or isn't warm enough with just cheap fabric and filling. This jacket is great quality and you should consider one if your looking for a plus size winter coat. The jacket has a small pocket on the left interior that zips open and shut and a pocket on the right side that's about cell phone sized. The zipper is good quality and the jacket has a interior cord that can shrink the waist area to keep wind out or cold air. This has stoppers on both ends which are the pinch to release ones. Exterior pockets on the front chest are velcro and are the same size to hold a small notepad or phone or tools. Collar is nice. I ordered the dark navy color and it looks almost black like the color of a p-coat. Am really looking forward to trying this coat out in the mountains. This is the heaviest lining I think that Carhartt offers other than their specialty wear for the north and south pole. I suggest if you're a plus size you consider this coat I'm really happy with it. I've owned lots of Carhartt gear over the years and will stay with them for clothing as long as they keep making it for us. Thanks for reading.

A bit larger but kind of what I expected.
It’s a bit larger than I expected but very much enjoyed. You can wear a good bit of layers and still feel free. Great for winters. Although it isn’t very flexible. I’m a larger man so xxl is pretty good for me with hoodies. With the jacket, it feels like a 3XL due to the amount of space. I personally enjoy it so I can wear layers underneath and take off the jacket if need be. It definitely kept me warm and yet it feels breathable because you can adjust the bottom of the jacket to be tight or loose. Flexibility is one thing, I haven’t had much time to break it in. Only had about two months of wear so far and the material is pretty stiff. So trying to work under a car or in tight spaces with the sleeve down makes it a bit challenging. Inside the sleeves is an elastic cuff so you can roll up the sleeve for a bit more room but it’s a heavier jacket and fall down occasionally.

Quality made coat.
This traditional coat is very well made. The stiff duck material will last you the rest of your life but you will spend 1/2 of the rest of your life trying to break this coat in. The fit runs loose fit which means between 1/2 and 3/4 of a size large. The inside is taffeta and rated one of the warmest in the Carhartt line of jackets and coats. Sales come every once in a while so if you are patient you can get a deal. Very very good coat.

Perfect
I have had this jacket for about six months and I love it! It has and inside pocket which I love and is very warm. I got a large and I’m 6.4’ 100kg and it fit perfectly. The only thing I would change is to remove the Velcro as it gets dirty and stops working after a couple of months

Big Sizes
I am 198 cm tall weigh 125kg so I am a big man. Therefore I bought first a Tall in size XXL thinking that should be adequate. When I got it was humongous so I sent it back and got an L instead and it fits perfectly. So buy at least one size smaller than you usually do.
