The handles/straps drop about 9.2 inches ， it is a good size for anyone :)

Absolutely, they're huge, as for the sturdiness however, the bag's sidings are pretty thin. Its a pretty simple bag, so I'm not sure how much heavy lifting the bag can withstand.
