Mayco Jungle Gems Crystal Glaze - CG 964 - Kaleidoscope - 4 Ounce Jar

I was nervous about using a glaze with crystals since some can run excessively and stick to the kiln shelf, but this one worked perfectly! I poured it inside a slip-cast bowl to get a thorough coating and brushed one coat over the rim on the outside to meet with a matte white glaze I put on the lower half. As per a classmate’s recommendation, I added a thick coat of transparent gloss glaze on top to keep the crystals from getting knocked off during handling. Just an FYI: The base color of this glaze appears to be white or clear. The blue comes from crystals, so be aware that the amount of color you see will vary quite a bit.

So cute ! A few cracks here and there, but nothing crazy I fired at cone 05 (1904°F). Will be purchasing again when item is restocked!! :)Update: I fired at exactly 1900°F and there were no cracks at all!

Looks as pictured. Fun and bright. Make sure you mix it well or the "gems" will stick in the bottom of the container. I put the extra sparkles from the bottom of the jar and created an interesting and unexpected streaking but that wasn't the norm. A glaze I keep on my shelf.

Easy to apply thanks to small crystals. Looks nice on white clay body (although there are some linear cracks at the base). On red earthenware clay it appears transparent with flecks of color and cracks all over like a crackle glaze. Pieces were fired together at 04 instead of 05 to 06.

Great glaze! Pay attention to how many crystals you put on if you like the blue to feature prominently.

I like this glaze, it covered good and the colors are bright and pretty. I fired on 04 bisque at 06.Also the company I bought it from Creative Crafts shipped it very fast.

I like the jungle gems. I put them on top of another glaze. Either a flat piece or at very top of pieces with some height. Makes a highlight on the piece.
