Great for that afternoon sunshine.
I get the afternoon sun beating onto my front porch and I bought this to help mitigate the heat. It works great and it's easy to install and easy to use. Don't use it when it's windy but otherwise it's perfect for those hot afternoons.

Most Definitely Cool
I wish I would have installed these years ago. My west facing porch gets blasted with sun. I tried outdoor curtains, blackout drapes inside and outside (so depressing), bamboo shades, and a repurposed sail. This shade (putty) is a game changer. It lets in so much light…but not the heat. It took me two minutes to hang one by myself (and I’m so proud I did it without help). I was worried the dimensions were not perfect edge to edge. It actually looks nicer with a gap in between the columns, and my house is cooler than it has ever been in the summer without the air on. No regrets other than waiting five years to figure out that these shades are awesome.

Great Product AND Customer Service
I love these roller shades! Sesame color is a very close color match to my siding. I purchased these 2 to install on a portion of a wrap-around porch to block the afternoon sun, which is brutal 6 months of the year, to the point of not being able to enjoy the side porch until after the sun is behind the tree line. I ordered the ones that use the hand crank bar to try them out before purchasing the total number needed. They were very easy to install and look great! Manual crank to lower and raise is easy, smooth and not an issue for me. They block the sun enough to where we aren't blinded (or scorched), yet we can still see through them enough to see the cows and calves in the pastures that surround us on 3 sides. Gotta love country living! Downside: 1 of the 2 shades ordered arrived damaged. They were not in a packing carton, but rather in the original "flimsy" plastic casing you'd expect if you were buying them off the shelf at a retail store. I was very disappointed. HOWEVER, I initiated the return of the damaged shade via Amazon, the damaged item was picked up, and I had a replacement 2 days later. The replacement arrived appropriately packaged in shipping-worthy, heavy-duty packaging. No questions were asked, no back-and-forth emails or phone calls necessary. They went above and beyond to ensure I was a satisfied customer. I will be ordering 9 more shades to complete the porch, and I will definitely be ordering the next 3 very soon. 5 stars for the product and particularly for the no-hassle customer service response!

Good solution. Installation gotchas...
While eating outside at our new patio dining table we noticed something we had never noticed before since we rarely at outside. The master bath shower has a high window that we use for shampoo and conditioner and it was looked terrible from the outside. We'd just never noticed it before. Time for some sort of covering on that window. Along comes this Coolaroo exterior shade - perfect for what I needed! I can't compare it to other shades but will say this shade seems to be well built and made to last. Other reviews of Coolaroo products noted flimsy mounting brackets - the ones that came with my shade were not flimsy and worked well. I was mounting onto the stucco exterior on the west side of the house. Mounting to the stucco was straightforward and seems to hold well. I did have one challenge and that was getting the shade to hang level. I was hanging it by myself and mounting at about 9 feet - this was my own self induced part of the challenge. I mounted one bracket (the left side) then went to the right side to find level and mount the right bracket. I put the left end of the shade into the left bracket, put a level on top of the shade and marked the position for the right bracket. I then installed the right bracket and stepped back to admire my work. It's not even close to level!!! The right side is much lower than the left, what the heck? Further investigation reveals the aluminum roller is bowed! So, when I checked level the middle of the roller was on the low part of the bow. Roll the shade 180 degrees and now the middle of the roller is high. My mistake for checking level using the shade. Remount the right side this time using a mason line and level - now the brackets are installed level! Step back to observe and… still not quite level! Turns out the right side of the fabric hangs down farther than the left side… as the shade rolls up the bottom bar gets closer to level as it reaches the top. As the shade lowers the bottom bar gets farther and farther from level until it hangs almost 1/2" lower with the shade at the bottom. Frustrating! Multiple trips up and down have not fixed it yet. So: 1) Watch out for the bow in the shade roller. 2) If you want the top level, then level the brackets and don't count on the shade roller as your level baseline. 3) Consider whether you want the top level or the bottom level just in case the fabric isn't quite "square" on the roller. Other than my own created comedy during installation and the whole fabric thing, the shade looks great, seems sturdy and built to last, matches well with the house, and meets my need well. The 90% UV blocking shade does block A LOT of ambient light coming into the room but does allow you to see through it.

Years of excellent service
Years ago, I installed two, six-foot Coolaroo shades over the windows on the back bedroom. I put up a ten-foot, and an eight-foot Coolaroo shade on one side of the 'catio'. Being on the Salish Sea, we occasionally have (literal) gale-force winds; not to mention rain and snow. The shades have withstood the weather very well, and have kept the back bedrooms cooler. The shades in the catio greatly reduce the glare from the white single-wide on the lot next door. We've been so pleased with this product that late last week I put two, four-foot Coolaroo shades over the windows of the front bedroom. They have helped reduce the temperature in the front bedroom against the hot sunlight up here at the 49th Parallel. Today we received a six-foot shade for the front room window. I was able to install all of the shades without help; even the ten-foot one. Installation is very simple. My only complaint is that there isn't enough room on the crank bracket to use my drill. With the latest installation, I found that it's easier to mark the hole locations, and drill the holes without the brackets. Coolaroo shades are easy to install, stand up to Pacific Northwest weather, cool our rooms, reduce sun glare and wind buffeting, and we can still see through them. The units are packaged in four-foot by four-inch cardboard tubes, which should be more than adequate for shipping. I ordered two units, and each one was shipped in separate cardboard boxes with packing paper. I did find the packing to be excessive and wasteful. At least I was able to repurpose most of one tube for something else. Better to just put a label on the tubes and ship them that way. The six-foot blind I also ordered was shipped without any packaging at all (not even a tube). Much better!

Great addition to any porch!
This cordless shade has been on my back porch for 3 years. If you want to be able to sit on the porch when the sun is directly beaming on it, this is the thing you need. It is made of light weight but sturdy canvas like material. It blocks the direct sunlight and is great for summertime parties. It has an easy to use winding rod to quickly move the shade up and down. It comes with two holders that keep the shade from moving in the wind. It is nice to look at whether it is rolled up or down. It took my husband less than an hour to in stall. He said it was pretty easy to install and the sizing was correct. Be sure to measure the area you want covered to ensure full coverage.

Easy to install and does the job
These shades make such a difference in the Arizona heat. It keeps the sun from shining through my glass French doors. It also helps keep my back patio cooler for my pups. These roller shades were super easy to install. I checked before hanging what the load capacity was for my aluminum beams. I used 2 6’x8’ shades and the packaging said total weight for each is around 7 pounds. I was able to use the screws that came with the shades. My awning is about 13’ across so there is a little gap on the sides. They roll smooth and dry out quickly if they get wet. I also bought a 10’ one to go on the side of my awning mostly for privacy. It’s a little heavier possibly 10lbs. But easy to install and they all come with long rods to roll the shade up and down.
