For those who obsessed over the quality of their cuts
Prior to this I bought one of those scrapbook type paper cutters. I was frustrated because it would not cut perfectly straight and left small indents on my paper next to where it cut. Then I did some research and bought this. It is worth every penny. Perfectly straight lines, perfect 90s, no indent on my paper, and very easy to line up. This is so accurate, I can cut out printed photos right up to the border without losing any of the inked area nor leaving behind a white border. I can't speak on longevity since I've only had this for a week or two, but it feels quality built with fairly good materials. If you're the type of person to obsess over the quality of your cuts I highly recommend this.

If this breaks, I'm buying it again.
This is so much better than any guiloteen paper cutter. I use it to trim vinyl decals and to cut vinyl sheets from rolls to smaller size. Always cuts clean. I do take it apart and clean the sticky adhesive that builds up from my vinyl when i feel it becoming stiff or takes more force to slide the blade. it builds on the roller and the edge of the cutting blade, but its simple and goes right back to working.

Great Safe Cutting!
Stredy cutter that works good on paper and card stock. Precise cutting with a clean edge. Not made for cardboard cutting. The design has safety in mind, as it would be difficult for even the tiniest human fingers to access the blade.

Great Cutter. More guidelines would be helpful
First-rate trimmer. The base is metal, so keep in mind that magnetic elements will stick to the base. More guidelines on the base would be awesome.

A Total Disappointment for the Price
I bought the Dahle 508 specifically for an event because I needed clean, precise cuts and wanted a "professional" brand I could trust. Given the price tag, I expected this trimmer to be a workhorse. Instead, it didn't even make it through a single afternoon of light use. The Issues: Cheap Build Quality: For something marketed as a "personal rotary trimmer," it feels incredibly flimsy. The plastic components feel brittle, and the "automatic clamping" feature is a joke—it barely holds a single sheet of paper in place, let alone the five sheets it claims to handle. Dull and Inaccurate: Despite the "self-sharpening" claim, the blade started dragging and tearing the paper halfway through my project. I wasn't even cutting heavy cardstock; just standard paper. By the end of the hour, the edges were jagged and looked unprofessional. Zero Durability: I paid a premium for this tool, and it’s already heading for the trash. A trimmer at this price point should last years, not hours. Bottom Line: Do not waste your money. You are paying for the brand name, but the performance is worse than a budget trimmer you'd find at a grocery store. It failed me when I needed it most, and I'm beyond frustrated with the lack of quality.

Great machine, but not ideal for cutting precisely on a line.
Great machine, although if you're trying to cut on a line on the paper, you'll have to manually move the paper a couple of millimeters to the right of the edge to eyeball where the blade will actually cut. You'll need practice to figure out where this phantom cut line is, and really good lighting. My cheaper trimmer did not have this problem.

Ignore the one star reviews
I just wanted to address some of the one star reviews as I almost didn’t buy this because of them. This is a high quality, precise and well engineered cutter. The idea that it “isn’t capable of precision cuts” or other such criticisms is ridiculous. This is very precise and makes very clean, professional looking cuts. I’m using it for photographic paper, which is thick, and it has zero trouble making completely clean, straight cuts. I’m glad I didn’t let the poor reviews dissuade me. I figured it me made by a reputable German company and I got exactly what I hoped for.

Proxy Card Maker Reviewer
Pros: The materials are top-notch, the blade is sharp and does clean cuts, and there are many guides to help you with your precision. The self honing will save you money in the long run. Previously I was using a Fiskar. After a year of constant use, the blade wore out and I had to buy another pack with blades which were more than half the price of the original cutter. Cons: It's hard to get used to aligning the paper for those precise cuts. The metal rail on the right side is ever so tilted or bent. I thought it was me until I finally switched to the left side. The Dahle is also not as exact as a wire guide like with the Fiskar. Overall it'll take a lot of practice cuts before you get cards just the way you want. Conclusion: If you're making proxies for the long haul, it's worth the investment.

Very displeased with this
First time I have used one of these . I recently took my photography to the next level and purchased A printer and now I needed a trimmer as scissors just cut it if you will pardon the pun This certainly trims easily . Straight out of the box I found it very stiff to operate but it works fine after some effort . Worth the extra few Pennies in my opinion seems strong enough and very accurate as one would expect From German engineering After the third use with just ordinary Af paper the stiffness got even worse and the paper edges snagged and rather than cutting cleanly the blade left jagged edges so after numerous attempts I have set about returning this product . It isn’t user error I suspect it’s the blade but it’s just so hard to slide it at times I have given up and ordered another brand . As I have this ostentatiously for photos I would not trust this to cut cleanly
