2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD - Up to 2000MB/s Read Speeds - Black

I've got a 27 inch iMac, quad core i5 at 3.3GHz, 32GB of RAM, running Sequoia via OpenCore Legacy Patcher. By rights it should have gone in a skip by now. The internal Fusion Drive is so slow it's basically a shelf for things I never open. So I plugged in a 2TB Extreme Pro and made it the boot drive. Over a year later it's still my daily machine. It boots off USB perfectly. No fuss, no hangs, no weird permission problems, and the difference in feel is night and day. The Fusion Drive is now just dumb storage. Everything that matters lives on the SanDisk and the whole machine behaves like a much newer computer. Worth being clear about what it can and can't fix. The Mac still has limits that no drive solves. Some newer apps have started falling over, the Claude desktop app being one. That's the CPU and the unsupported OS, not this. But for everything else it's given a beautiful screen and a decent machine several more years of proper working life. I hammer it. Big files, constant read and write, running as the system disk which is about as hard as you can push an external drive. It hasn't skipped once. Five stars. Cheaper than a new computer and it did more than a new computer would have. If you've got an old Mac with a tired internal drive, this is the fix.

I’ve been using the SanDisk SSD’s for a while now with Blackmagic Designs 6K and 6K Pro Cinema Cameras. They’ve performed flawlessly on every shoot so far. I always shoot BRAW these days and though I’ll rarely shoot at 3:1 compression, I tend to shoot all my interviews at 6K with 5:1 compression. I’ve never had a dropped frame, never had a drive fail (other brands I’ve used have hit these problems after a few hours operation) and the transfer speeds are superb. They’re even thin enough to fit inside the SSD compartment on the SmallRig 6KPro cage. Though they do rattle about. Maybe add a little padding to hold it in place. All in all, I’d highly recommend these as part of your Blackmagic camera kit.

The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD 2TB is an excellent external drive for fast file transfers and reliable storage. Great USB-C drive, pretty decent speed over a 20gbps cable - I use it for large 4k video file temporary storage while I am working on the files (note that I manually transfer the files to the Mac SSD before starting work). Not experienced any excess heat or data loss - I was a bit worried as this model was supposed to have some issues with it, but it's been a good value for money purchase for me. It has the functionality listed and what I expected.

This is the second hard drive and I’m really happy with them. They do exactly as explained, I use them to backup my business work. The only slight criticism is that the usb on one stopped working. I was worried the drive was corrupt but when I use an apple usb cable to connect to my Mac it works fine. I think this is down to the cable as it was the same on our PC desktop. However that aside a brilliant hard drive and will continue to buy more as needed.

so disappointed. ⚠️ it only has one USB connector, so transfer speed is ultimately limited & can't take advantage of it being an NVMe drive. for it's cost they couldn't have multiple connectors with onboard system to even have parallel transfer? ⚠️ the disk heats up a lot even when not in use (actively reading / writing) so it's wasting energy and doing god knows what. I expected so much more. better off buying a NVMe-to-USB adapter to save money. ⚠️ It has some small separate embedded disk with encryption software but NO Linux software only Win/Mac and it is really laggy and stalled the machine when I clicked on it. ⚠️ For such a large storage capacity the likelihood of transfering data is high yet the cable is incredible short and impractically so. ⚠️ The USB-A connector doesn't even have a secure attachment mechanism, so when it was plugged into front panel and was moved slightly while transfering backup files, the physical plug came loose and caused it to corrupt the files and partition being transferred to. If they had bothered with parallel connection option you could have longer cable (more power), allow connection redundancy (if one cable disconnects). They didn't even think to add a clip or magnet to reduce possibility of the single USB plug being disconnected. The people who designed this are sub-par. The product is a lisbility and waste of money, severely over-priced.

I needed a new Time Machine backup drive for my Mac. This worked straight out of the box, no complicated setup. It's excellent, totally silent running, no mains power needed, very fast read/write speed. Highly recommended. Tiny complaint: USB lead provided is quite short. This suited me, but if you need to place it at a distance, you'll need a male/female USB extension.

SanDisk should make it clear. This drive will ONLY achieve max 1000 mbs on Macs. Even with high bit cables eg 80 gbs. Because it needs USB 3.2x2. All Macbooks have USB 3.2 compatability. You need to get a drive that is USB 4 to achieve 2000 mbs + with Macbooks. Make it clear SanDisk, it's not difficult! Apart from that the drive is good, solid and reliable speeds at just under 1000 mbs. Be warned, the drive does get very warm. It is also a nice size with reasonable encryption.

Ich denke, es ist die neuere Version (im Vergleich zur schwarz-orangen ssd). Bin sehr zufrieden! Ist klein, läuft schnell. Wirkt sehr hochwertig 😀 Am Windows Laptop (surface book 2) tadellos, aber kann auch am Smartphone (samsung, Android) per usb-c kabel angesteckt werden. Wird erkannt und kann alle dateien im dateimanager anzeigen (allerdings zeigt es keine fotos in der Galerie - zumindest habe ich das noch nicht geschafft)

SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD is not a cheap unit. I was looking for a super-fast Lightning SSD drive to setup external libraries for Final Cut Pro and to store a full sound library for Logic Pro. WIth 2TB I was also keen to use this SSD for Time Capsule back up. I'm impressed. My Logic Sound library is 90GB and the transfer from my Macbook Pro to the SanDisk took about 5 minutes. This drive screams along compared to anything I have experienced before. I partitioned the drive into a general SSD for Logic, Final Cut and other folders and a separate Time Capsule partition. In literally 15 mins I have fully moved my sound library (90GB), my Final Cut Library (90GB) and done a full, Time Capsule backup (100GB). So I have heaps of space left to move a few hundred GD I have on a slow old NAS to this drive as well. I'm pleased. Most pleasing of all is that this unit is tiny. It is literally 1cm thick and about 4cmx10cm dimension. It is pocket-sized. It also seems very robust and it listed as water resistant. Perfect for external media on the road I think. Worth the investment for me for sure.
