Very firm and provides good support and comfort
This is a very good booster seat for short people. It's thick and very firm and provides great support. Very comfortable when sitting on it and it doesn't smash down under your weight like other booster seats I've purchased. I like this product very much and we'll probably purchase another one. I'm short and my friend is short and when we sit at the outdoor table we feel like we're in preschool. We just needed a little lift to get us up high enough to feel like adults at the table. This works!

Durable, Hospital Grade, a good base for cushion layering.
Not the softest, but definitely very durable. Probably best with this in wheelchair and a thinner softer cushion on top. Replace softer cushion when worn out, and this thing adds good padding base underneath softer cushion so patient doesn't sink into chair and another layer of padding for big bumps. This appears to be Hospital grade and able to withstand many cleanings. To make it last longer, again I'd suggest a thin soft top layer to this.I noticed my small child using it to sit higher at a desk. It is firm enough it held him up off the more uncomfortable seat below, yet soft enough to be comfortable to sit in it for a long duration.I do think this is an excellent base for anyone for any type of seat. It is quite wide and probably as close to the actual conventional wheelchair base in dimensions as you can get. It is quite large and very thick. It is firm, yet softer than many chairs and definitely softer than the wheelchair bottom without it.Also the firm nature means someone doesn't sink so deep into it they cannot get out of it.

A Solid Entry-Level Cushion
I was between preferred options in terms of more advanced cushions and really needed to get something that could work for my daily wheelchair use. This Essential Medical Supply Rehab 1 Cushion with Higher Density for Additional Support is an affordable entry-level option that is probably best for those with very basic cushion needs. For those who need stronger support to prevent pressure sores, this is not a viable option. This is an 18"x16" cushion that fits nicely in my wheelchair. It's 4" thick and this is what I've been used to and really needed. This is also an Amazon's Choice. The fill material is foam. The cover is machine washable. If you're someone who needs basic cushion support, I think this is a tremendous option. It's soft but also has some firmness to it. I had some difficulty using it in the wheelchair as I transfer by holding onto the chair and I found this cushion had a little too much give to it. While it's considered a "medical" cushion, I'm not sure I see it as effective for a wheelchair user other than, perhaps, those who are primarily stationary and don't have active lifestyles. I find it reasonably comfortable for short-term use, however, on the occasions I've used it for an entire work day I've been less happy with it.For those sitting in chairs at home or office chairs, I can definitely see this being an effective and affordable option.Overall, I found this to be a decent short-term option but I was definitely happy when I was able to move to a more customized cushion specific to my support needs. However, this cushion from Essential Medical is a solid entry-level cushion for basic support needs that don't involve pressure sores or ulcers.

Thick/Firm/Uncomfortable but Becomes More Comfortable and Flexible with Use
Ordered this to help me when my arthritis is flaring up and I have trouble getting out of my chair. I wanted the 3 inch but reviews were not very positive with comments about it flattening and not retaining it's shape or thickness. Reviews on the 4 inch were more positive on it retaining it's thickness . Comments also said the 4 inch wasn't necessarily comfortable for long periods of time. Definitely right on that. It gives a little when sat upon but not much. It's too high for me and I'm 5'8". Will try it for a couple of days but will probably return it for the 3 inch. Also, you will probably need scissors and a knife to open the package. I had to open the Amazon box, then the manufacturer's box, then a shipping mailing bag, then cellophane wrapping, and finally a cardboard sleeve just to get to the cushion. Good grief. If you are looking for a thick, firm cushion, this should meet your needs. It's just a little bit more than I need.UPDATE: After about a week of use, It has become more comfortable. It now gives a little when sitting on it making it comfortable but retains it shape and returns back up to the 4 inch height. In fact, I like it so much now, I probably will order more. Guess it just needed to be broken in.

Helps my dad
I combined the 4" and 2" pads and it's the perfect height for my dad. At a rec from an occupational therapist, I also bought some carpet/shelf non skid liner and cut pieces to go in between the pads and on top of the chair. Helps prevent slipping off.
