It turns out you CAN still buy good appliances in this day and age. It is perfectly possible to still buy devices that are not engineered to fail, are meant to be serviced and maintained, and are designed with ease of use in mind instead of trendy marketing gimmicks. You just have to buy "commercial" appliances instead of "consumer" ones. The difference between the two terms as descriptors of market segments is pretty funny. This microwave is simple, high quality, easy to use, easy to clean, works perfectly, and is built like a tank. A few decades ago, none of that would be remarkable at all. In our enshittified era, these traits are a startling breath of fresh air. My only complaint (and it is a very minor one) is that its 'beep' noise is very loud. It is designed to be used in loud chaotic restaurant kitchen environments, so I can forgive it that. It does thankfully have a setting to disable the beeps entirely, which I did, and removed the concern. It would be nice, however, if there were a setting for a 'quieter beeps' mode.

Original review: We bought the touchpad version of this microwave 8 years ago. It was more expensive than others we had bought, but we were tired of cheap ovens dying prematurely. We are very satisfied with this oven and will buy another if it ever dies. It heats evenly and quickly, and it has lasted much longer than any other microwave we have had (including several non-commercial Panasonics). It's not perfect, but we've learned to mostly love its quirky time selection system (note to Panasonic: the 20 Second button is redundant since I can get 20 by hitting Double Time, then 10 Seconds. Replace it with a 15 Second button). We hated the loud beep it made when it finished heating, but we turned that off almost immediately, and now we have a microwave oven that DOESN'T BEEP AT ALL! Also, no clock to update twice a year and every time there's a power blink. It's easy to clean because it has (and needs) no turntable. One important thing to know: there is an internal fuse. The fuse blew at the 2-year mark, and I was afraid the oven was dead, but once I replaced the fuse (I think there was a YouTube video, but honestly it was 6 years ago and I've forgotten) it was back in business. There have been no further issues. Update (27Jan2024): Now nine years old, and still truckin'. The fuse blew a second time shortly after I wrote this review, but again I replaced it and again the oven fired right up. The fuse you need is a Bussman ABC20 ceramic fuse, usually labeled as a microwave fuse. Update (11Dec2024): Ten years old today. Happy birthday, ugly silver microwave oven. The best money I ever spent was on a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The $250 I spent on this oven is definitely up near the top.

Toshiba $100 small microwave broke in less than 1 year and Toshiba told me I had to return it at my own cost "for inspection" to a warehouse across the country so that they could determine whether I was owed a repair or replacement. I said "no way!!", took it to the local recycling center and said "no more Toshibas!" so went back to good old Panasonic, one of our most reliable brands. So glad I made this decision: This microwave costs more than the cheap Toshibas but it is also noticeably more solidly built and has performed wonderfully ever since we got it. I hadn't realized it when I bought it but it has pre-programmed buttons that make it extremely simple for children as well elderly to use: just push the right button to get 10 secs, 20 secs, 30 secs, 1 min, etc. Although the price was higher than most countertop microwaves, it is still a fraction of what a built-in would cost, and it's the best microwave we have ever had. Strongly recommend!!

I bought this microwave in December of 2018. It replaced a residential microwave that lasted only 2 years. So far it's been a great little microwave with zero issues, and we use it many times a day. One of my most favorite things about it is that it's so very easy to clean. It's great not having a turntable. Another favorite feature is that it has the absolute best defrost cycle of any microwave I've ever owned, and there were a lot of them. It defrosts slowly and doesn't cook the edges of the food as some microwaves do. I also like to use the defrost cycle to re-heat food gently. The power on this microwave is 200 watts less than my last one, and I was worried that it wouldn't be powerful enough for my liking, but I actually like the lower watts better because it doesn't destroy things on the high setting. It is simple to operate and it's pretty intuitive once you have some experience with it. It's quite a bit different than a residential microwave, but we got the hang of how it operates fairly quickly. There are no pre-set buttons for specific foods. I love that you can program it so the beep goes away. We can hear it go off, so we don't need an annoying beep. I would buy this microwave over again when it finally dies. So far it has proven to be a real workhorse and the quality is great. I can honestly say that it's the most favorite microwave I've ever owned. I'm a happy customer.

I am rating this one star in the hope that someone at Panasonic will read this. It is inexcusable to put tape on Stainless Steel (or anything) that is going to leave a noticeable blemish or mark or discoloration when removed! Why would you do this? So, Panasonic puts two separate long pieces of tape to hold the door closed during shipping. When I carefully and slowly peeled this tape off, it left behind discolorations...and I mean large and noticeable discolorations where the tape was. I tried washing it...and while it faded a bit, the discolorations/blemishes remain. This is infuriating to me. An expensive and very nice looking microwave marred because they choose to put crap tape on the stainless steel to hold the door closed. I hate it! And Amazon "One Star" means "I Hate It." So, that justifies my one-star rating. I am going to keep the microwave because I fear replacing it will end up with the same result. And because there is only one other similar model in size that has the desired situation of no spinning plate necessary because there is rotating bottom energy feed, etc. (And that other model, also listed at Amazon, is a generic name and not a brand name like Panasonic. So, if I want the exact features the Panasonic offers, I have to tolerate the discoloration.) To review the actual microwave itself: This is a very small capacity microwave in both interior height and width. (Perfect for a single person.) I bought the model with the "non-traditionally-formatted" digital keypad. Yes, it requires either some thinking or the reading of the instruction manual to figure it out. But I found it easy to figure out rather quickly. Heating times seems fast enough. (I boiled one cup of water in exactly two minutes...If you want to test your existing 1000-watt microwave to compare the time). I like the no spinning plate. Easier to keep the interior clean. There is an odd cover over the light that could be the cause of concern if there ever is a food explosion in the microwave. It might be hard to clean under that cover. The microwave looks nice. The few things I have heated so far seem to have come out evenly heated. I am of course hoping for longevity. (I saw some reporting theirs did not last a long time. My last microwave, an LG Intellowave, lasted 15 years. I do not expect this will last as long.) Again, to all companies out there: Stop with the labels and the tape over items that when peeled off leave behind gunk or discoloration! Thank you.

This microwave has been a great investment for my business. I bought it about two years ago, and it still looks and works like new. It gets used every day, and I have never had any problems with it. It's durable, reliable, and heats food quickly and consistently. Because of how well it has held up, I have purchased several of them for my business over the years. If you're looking for a dependable commercial microwave that can handle daily use, I highly recommend this one. It's built to last and has been completely trouble-free. 👍🏼

My wife and I looked at a lot of microwaves before deciding on this one for our new home. We wanted a commercial microwave because commercial microwaves are: * easier to clean (that's what "NSF" approved means) -- less nooks and crannies for dirt and crumbs * harder to break -- the hinges, handles, etc. are pretty solid * more reliable -- this microwave keeps count of its usage by how many *hundreds* of times it's been operated. It's meant to stand up to being used many, many times a day and keep working Commercial microwaves like this one also don't have turntables -- they rotate the microwaving mechanism internally. No turntable = easier cleaning, less to break, and less sloshing of your food. We liked the NE-1054F because it still had a digital display / digital time buttons for accurate entry, and it has a light that stays on while the food is cooking and when the door is opened. This microwave is customizable -- if you read the manual, you can turn off the beeping (which is annoyingly loud) after cooking is finished, and you can go into "program lock" mode that makes it easy to just hit one button to start cooking. However, only giving this 4 stars since there are some quirks to this microwave. You have to have recently opened/closed the door to start cooking -- if you wait too long after closing the door, then the buttons don't work until you open/close again. Also, we ran into one issue where we heated some uncovered sauce for too long, and the steam caused the microwave to overheat / go into a safe mode. It basically seemed dead -- no buttons, no lights, no nothing. Left the microwave unplugged for a while, and it went back to normal operation after it cooled down. But the manual wasn't too helpful in this case, and we weren't sure what was going on. UPDATE 5/12/13: It turns out the overheating happened because sometimes the fan wasn't running properly. Looking inside the back grille with a flashlight showed a small piece of foam with sticky backing that was interfering with the fan blade. I managed to extract this with a coat hanger, a screwdriver, and a lot of patience, and now the fan runs properly all the time. So... still a decent microwave, but possibly some quality control issues at the factory. UPDATE 11/2/14: Have had the microwave about 1.5 years, and it's still working great. No issues other than the initial piece of loose foam reported above.

My father used to microwave his tea in the previous unit(a different Panasonic non commercial grade model)without covering it, letting it steam inside the oven, which may cause it to overheat and we have told him over and over to cover the DAMN thing, he just won't do it. Even though this unit is easy to use like a typical microwave, to set custom time, just hit Power once, which will be on high with the first press, then enter the time and hit Start, simple. However, my father is technologically ignorant and has OCD(e.g. he has to use a permanent market and draw symbols on wall switches, to remember which is the light, fan, on and off, etc.), he doesn't know how to use it and now has stopped microwaving his tea, finally stopped him. I was hoping that this had a child proof password feature, in case I need to stop my father from using it, but no need for that now. He's the type of person that you will need to lock everything up, otherwise, he'll mess with things in ways that will irk the hell out of ya, like leaving the microwave door opened after each use, etc.(too many things to list). - No pull or push button to open door, door is easy to open and not too tight to close, the unit will not move from closing. Unlike our previous microwave, which was pretty tight to close, each time you close it, it would make a loud sound and the whole unit would move backward a little. - No spinning tray, makes it easy to clean. - 1000 watts, .8 cubic feet is more than enough for typical users. It's an easy to use microwave, well built, so I don't have any more pros to add at this time. Cons: - By default, when it's done, it lets out 4-5 loud annoying beeps, which I have to read the manual on how to turn it off. Conclusion: - So far, am glad I decided to get this, instead of some cheaper stuff. >> UPDATE 7/5/2014 Tried turning the annoying 4-5 beeps off when cooking is done. I released the Program Lock, it shows a "P", so that's confirmed. Then opened door, pressed Prog, pressed 0, the display shows the Prog and Stage 1 lights on and the number 10 right below, which should be showing "bE EP", instead of 10, pressed 0 again, NOTHING happens, unable to toggle between Stage 1 and Stage 2 to turn off the Beep. Not sure if there is something wrong with this part of the feature. Calling Panasonic support soon. >> UPDATE 7/7/2013 Regarding turning the beep off that I was having trouble with on 7/5/2014. Spoke with Panasonic and then I realized that I misread the instructions. The first step says "Open the door", each time I tried, I opened and CLOSED the door, when I was supposed to leave the door OPENED, until the programming is completely finished. My bad :) My main issue was with the 4-5 annoying loud beeps when done cooking, however, once the Beep is turned off, there is no beep sound at all for ALL other functions, which I like, so I turned the Beep back on.
