Easy, Fun, and Delicious!
I had always wanted to make a King Cake, but the online recipes seemed a little too daunting. So I was excited when I found that there is a prepared mix, with everything you need! And it's a lot of fun to prepare and bake. At first I wasn't too sure about the locking bag in which you add the flour, yeast, hot water and an egg... that seemed a strange way to mix and knead dough. But I have to say: WOW. Not only is it easier to do it this way (if you are not using a mixer), but my dough rose so well that I was a little stunned. I make my own bread, and I've never had my dough rise like this cake mix does. I don't know if it was superior yeast, or if it's the bag itself that aids in the rising. I just know that this stuff seriously expanded in there. The only part of the process where I ran into a little difficulty was in rolling it out to the desired dimensions, but only because my counter space is a little short. But no trouble adding the filling, rolling it up, and shaping it into the proper oval. Then I covered it with a bowl and let it rise some more, which it did, just as impressively as the first time. Baking it was quick: just 20 minutes or so and the kitchen was filled with the most delicious scent! A little time to cool on the rack, and I was able to make the glaze (I had to add a little more water in order for it to be spreadable: one tablespoon of water was not nearly enough) and add the colored sugars. And of course, the most fun part, which was hiding the little plastic baby underneath. Then it was time to cut a piece and enjoy it! My goodness, it's yummy. My husband was so blown away that he wanted to take a piece to work the next day (he got the baby!). The pieces are VERY filling, so you don't need to cut a large piece to serve yourself, so each cake is about 10-12 servings. So even though the mix seems a bit expensive, it's not too terrible once you appreciate how good it tastes, how easy it is, and how many servings you get out of it. I made my first cake just after Mardi Gras, and put the other one aside, intending to save it for next year. But with the stay-at-home order in effect, I figured it would be a fun thing to do, and a nice treat to boot. I will definitely be buying again, and recommend to anyone who hasn't made a King Cake yet and wants to try. You won't be disappointed!!

Excellent King Cake Mix - everything's included
I loved this! the instructions were very easy and it included everything you need to make a good looking small king cake. I did not use the plastic bag to knead the dough. I used the stand mixer instructions and it turned out beautifully. I would have liked a bit more glaze but it was sufficient. Initially, I rolled it up the wrong way (short and fat)! then I unrolled it and needed to sprinkle more cinnamon and sugar on the rectangle before I rolled it up long ways - the correct way. It was very forgiving. When I make my next cake, I think I will add a bit more butter, sugar and cinnamon to the filling mix. My family does not like nuts, otherwise, I would have added chopped nuts to the praline filling. The cake came out nice and soft and fresh tasting. I posted a picture with and without topping. You can tell there's sugar on the outside from the wrong rolling but that was actually pretty tasty. There's not much green sugar on the final product because my little helper appropriated it. Edit: I continue to make these and love them. I add powdered sugar (about the same amount as in the package) and milk to the glaze mix to make a more generous layer of glaze. I also add a package of cream cheese to the praline filling mix and it's quite tasty. Be sure and pinch the edges well so it doesn't split upon rising and baking.

Party hit
This was a hit at my superbowl party. We were just in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and didn't want to carry back a King cake or a mix to make one on the plane. I found this one and Amazon and it's great. I had planned to make one from scratch but by the time I bought the colored sugars and the baby it came to the same amount of money as buying the whole kit. The directions are great and the whole process is easy. My rising times were way longer than the 30 minutes stated in the directions though and I have a proofing box. I think for the second one I will add some more confectioners sugar to make more glaze and tone down the strong vanilla flavor of the glaze.

Madison Gras cake mix
Expensive and a lot of work. My husband says he would rather have a raspberry pie.

A King-sized Hit!
I made this for a Mardi Gras party. All you need is an egg and some butter, everything else is included in the kit. It is not a simple box of cake mix, you have to add the yeast, knead the dough, then let it rise, roll it out, add the filling, form the cake, let it rise again........and bake it. Let it cool, glaze it, add the sprinkles, hide the baby. YES, you do the work, but the instructions are GOOD, and the result is GREAT. You will feel accomplished. And after all that work, your guests will love it. Looks lovely, tastes delicious. If you're lucky there will be a small piece left over when they all leave and you can save it for breakfast the next day, Definitely worth the price. I'm glad I bought the 2-pack because I can't wait to make it again.

Not enough filling in kit
First kit didn't have enough filling. So mix up some cinnamon, brown, and white sugar with a little more butter to add to filling volume. To kick it up a little more like a professional bakery Ice it warm with a little vanilla icing from store so it kinda melts and flows over surface. I'd also add a little butter flavored crisco because we followed instructions exactly and watched the video first and cake turned out breadie, dry, and lacking filling.
