Durometer Tester Shore A Hardness Tester, Rubber Tire Durometer Gauge 0~100HA Digital Hardness Meter with Large LCD Display

I am going to give it five stars with the caveat that I have no basis upon which to establish the device's accuracy other than the unverified ratings that are marked upon the test pieces. It is a much better built piece of test hardware than I was expecting. Kudos to the manufacturer! It is very easy to use, and has a very clear read-out. I am using it to gauge the hardness of Rollerblade and quad skate wheels and truck cushions. It is sure telling me plenty about the consistency of the density of the wheel at various test points. (A better quality wheel will not only register at its rated hardness, but will read out consistently across its diameter and circumference.) It also told me that there is no difference between a soft and a medium truck cushion from Sure-Grip for their Classic plates (both sets are factory new). Lastly, it has allowed me to quantify all of my 70s, 80s and 90s vintage, unmarked wheels and to stop relying on a bunch of guesses from well-meaning online posters. Well worth the price.

Nice unit, works great and seems very repeatable. Checking rubber roll covers in a paper mill as a secondary to a much larger P & J gauge. This fits in the machine to verify roll condition. Seems to be a nice unit and works well.

Readings may vary dependent upon the user so I’m unsure of the accuracy of the gauge but it seems to be consistent and good for using as a comparison tool between different materials. It’s unfortunate there’s not more literature than accompanied the gauge so we’ll have a better understanding of exactly how to use it.

I am an adhesives engineer and often need to measure the hardness of soft things like rubber or foam. The Gain Express Shore A tester is everything I could hope for: 1) It comes with a nice protective case for travel and transportation 2) It is powered by a common size watch battery 3) It zeros easily and stays zeroed for a long time 4) It is highly repeatable compared to the old analog testers I spent the last week testing cast urethane rubbers which are somewhere between 50 and 80 A hardness, and it clearly helped me identify undercured material. The tool saved me a bunch of analysis time and was a bargain price, considering how nice it is.

Arrived quickly. I tested it with several factory durometer samples and found the readings are off by +\- 1to2 durometers. Most people can’t tell by feel, the difference from 30 to 40 Shore A, so IMO the 1to2 tolerance is acceptable. From my molding experience, most injection molders will have difficulty holding tolerance within 1-2 points, so again the meter is acceptable.

This Instrument, checked against a 500.00 dollar desk style unit is Right On. Purchased to measure tire 'hardness' mostly for motorcycle and auto racing purposes......difference between cold and normal operating temps and extreme operating temperature hardness.....extreme as in hard braking, hot ambient air temps etc. Useful and informative. Easy to use. SHORE Type A proper unit for this application. Just purchase it.
