Zilla Rock Lair Reptile Hides, Naturalistic Hide, Extra Large

Our boy kept burrowing and staying under his water bowl, so I figured he wasn't happy with his hides. I saw this rock lair on Amazon and thought he would love it. He's 9 months old and 290 grams. I ordered the large and he fits well with some room to grow still. However, the problem then became that he loved this hide to the exclusion of any of his other hides. So I decided to get him a second one but opted for the extra large as I'm sure eventually he will outgrow the large, though probably not for a bit. He now uses both and he's a happy boy! Absolutely totally and completely worth it! They are heavy/sturdy, so he won't be able to move them around, he feels completely secure but I can also easily access him, and they look cool. Definitely recommend!

This is my second X-Large Zilla lair. I bought one for my 4 ft ball python, unsure if he would really use it...or even if he'd fit. Well...he fits, so he sits 😂 Only now he only sits on the cool side, so the same hide for the warm was a requirement so he'll properly thermo regulate. I saw plenty of reviews saying it came broken, and my first one did come with a small break off on the inside lip. I hot glued that puppy right back on and sealed it with some aquarium silicone, and it was just fine... it's what Sergeant Snek is in and sitting on in my pics. The second one was clearly a return... there was a little scuffing on the inside in the yellow circle of one pic (has no bearing on how the hide will function, so I don't care) BUT that same exact place on the inside lip was broken again, circled in red on 2 of the pics...only this time there was no little piece for me to glue back on rattling around the inside; it's just gone. But that's fine. I sealed the rough edges of the break with some more aquarium silicone and it will still function just fine for Sarge's purposes. My smaller boy sage has the medium lairs, and he loves those, too! Definitely recommended as they provide excellent hiding places that are easily accessible; but remember the lids are pretty heavy so you never want to slam them down. Easy to clean and moist importantly, danger noodle approved 😊🐍

Looked at quite a few of these extra large hides for my RP, Ayame, since she outgrew her previous hide which was her favorite. I was concerned about the fact that people were reporting broken or damaged hides being delivered, thankfully, ours was intact. I cleaned it and added some moss for her to lay on but it took a bit of coaxing for her to get in, she seems content. The top is heavy so she doesn't budge it when she slides on in and looks like she's for plenty of room. She is about 38"-41" inches long (kinda hard to get her to lay straight just to measure her, ya know 😉) but she weighs a little bit over 1100 G. It seems to be holding the heat pretty well inside when checked with a temp gun it was a cozy 89° inside. I really enjoyed the Natural Stone with moss look to it because I feel like it gives it more of an authentic feel inside of her terrarium.

Love it! I first bought a large and it was too small. The XL does work for 4+ foot, 1500g+ adult ball python, but she does push the lid up when she moves or puffs up. She stays inside but the lid usually is not placed perfectly where it should be. She is fitting inside (and doesn’t come out ever, so loves it), but it’s a hair tight for a large adult. I put some damp moss inside and noticed today she is about to shed… so seems she loves the extra humidity inside. It is definitely heavy, I have to be careful when lifting the lid that I don’t squish her putting it back down. Looks great and natural in the enclosure! Thankfully it came in 1 piece, no cracks or breaks as some reported.. seemed safely packed to me.

My ball seems to really enjoy this hide she’s about 1300 grams and almost 4ft long and got the XL size, she fits nicely with a some room to grow. My biggest issue with this hide is upon cleaning it, my partner sliced his finger on a raised jagged edge in the dwelling part of the hide! There was also a chip with some sharp edges around the closing edge of the hide but we sanded that down also. That being said, Make sure to double check any hides for your reptiles and sand them down before using. If it was sharp enough to cut and draw blood, I can’t imagine what it could’ve done to our snake so thankfully we recognized it. Hopefully companies will recognize these issues and raise their standards to ensure their products are safe, but it’s better for us consumers to be safe than sorry and check them anyway. Other than that, the hide itself is very heavy duty, ensuring strong snakes can’t lift the top half, but careful when placing it down it might pinch them. The main reason I bought this hide is because she likes fitting snuggly and is still using one of her juvenile hides, but when trying to get her out she expands herself and gets scales caught. The split opening feature on this hide allows me to have easy access without getting scales caught and harming her. Even though you’re paying a hefty price point for this hide, just the opening feature is what attracts me to it and it does its job great. Though if I’m paying a pretty penny I expect the hide to be free from jagged edges. Regardless with a little extra love I think this hide will last a long time and think it was worth the investment. Update: after having this for awhile I noticed my ball is strong enough to open the lid and that worries me bc if it falls on her it could pinch

I know you're looking at the price like, "wtf," but I promise you if you're looking for a large hide for something like a Ball Python, you need not look any further. The two-piece design and quality of this product make's it SUPER easy to clean. Not only being able to keep it clean, but also keeping your snake feeling comfortable is spot on. My female Ball Python is 9 years old, and she's a large snake, and fits so well. At times, you can see that she will 'swell" up and lift the top, but that's only after feeding. There is so much to say about how valuable this item is, but I just recommend you buy it, feel the weight of the product, and see the quality. I promise you'll be satisfied.

I’m writing to help people with sizing. The product works great as a humid hide for my adult brazilian rainbow boa who measures in at 6 foot 2 inches and she just barely fits in the extra large. It’s one of the few commercially available hides that fits a snake this large, but still has a somewhat naturalistic look. The top functions great as a basking rock without the inside getting too hot. Easy to clean, sturdy, and works great to help my big girl feel secure. Worth the few extra bucks compared to some of the other stuff out there that’s basically just tupperware with a hole in the side.

First, let me preface my review with the fact that I have this same hide in the large size and Pierre, my ball python, absolutely loves it. This review is more about how the item is being shipped rather than the hide itself. The extra large hide feels very well crafted (despite not withstanding the shipping process), same as the large hide that I've had for over a year. However, I've order the hide 3 times and they have been delivered broken all 3 times (see pics with dates attached to this review). At this point, I would prefer to find a seller that sells this same hide retail, or go with a different one altogether. Zilla, I'm open to other suggestions. Pierre is hoping you can come through with a solution :-D

Purchased 2 of these for an adult Ball Python. While I knew the dimensions, I was still surprised when they arrived. These hides are HUGE and very HEAVY! Each hide measures about 13"L x 8"W x 6"H, and weighs 13 lbs. Their XL size provides a comfortably secure space for an adult Ball Python. Adding some damp moss inside makes a perfect humid hide which holds humidity well. Very realistic moss covered rock. The rough texture adds to the appearance while also aiding with sheds. While I like that the weight helps prevent unwanted moving/tipping... I feel it is unnecessarily heavy which can make removing the hide for cleanings etc. more difficult. Aside from it's weight, cleaning is fairly easy. A little soak followed by a scrub brush and it cleans very well. Overall, a great hide for an adult Ball Python and/or other reptile. Recommend, especially during a sale! ★★★★★

Love this hide but was a little worried hearing about others arriving broken. Mine arrived today and unfortunately the lip was chipped most likely from the packaging and shipping :( I could hear the broken pieces rattling before I cut the plastic off Doesn’t change how it functions but for the price I wish it came intact

The product itself is a very good purchase and it’s everything it was advertised! The trouble with product is the packaging for shipping. The Rock cave arrived with the package jiggling so knew deep down what to expect, yup the lid of the cave was badly broken! Being in a repair industry I figured seeing how hard they are to find never mind the grievious act called “returning” I just rolled up the sleeves and went at it with 2 part epoxy! It went together reasonably well except the very top where the to small pieces to glue left a hole on very top? What to do? Ahhh epoxy a small plant on it,that now made even more realism! Left for few days to air out then introduced to the Kage. and Cuddles the princess python is stupid happy with her new humid extra large sphagnum pillow soft bedding Zilla Rock Cave!!
