Roland EC-10 ELCajon Electronic Layered Cajon

As an acoustic cajon the EL Cajon sounds great.. honestly no need to have it plugged in all the time to enjoy the instrument. I like adding some extra flavor to my beats and for that the samples sound very cool to add accents.Craftsmanship is excellent as expected from Roland with a piano-like ebony semi-matte black finish and natural wood face. The instrument feels tense in the beginning, but breaks in over time and you will also learn where to tap and at what velocity.One really needs to practice playing the instrument for at least a couple of months, understand the delicacies of playing an acoustic instrument before complaining about the triggers. It works fine, one just needs to learn where to tap and be consistent about it.

Love my El Cajon. I have no musical background and have never played an instrument. Never even heard of a Cajon until 1 year ago when I attended a small jazz show. I thought the instrument was really cool and wanted one but held off. I found myself thinking about it for about a year and then somehow El Cajon came on my radar. I love it and find it relaxing to just bang away to different music that I listen to on my Sonos system. My teenage boys laugh at me and my dogs go crazy. Very happy with the purchase. As a non-musician I fully enjoy it.

Received two of these items, an initial order and then a replacement. To start, I’ve been playing Roland electronic kits since I was a kid, and they should be ashamed of themselves with this product. For a company as innovative as they are with trigger response and accuracy, I have to say that this unit did not deliver on any of the quality I came to expect, particularly at this price point.Not one, but both of the items I was sent were either defective or just downright lousy in terms of their trigger localization accuracy and sensitivity. Quick rolls and velocity response were terrible and I could barely get one sound to register consistently anywhere on the face. As a stand-alone acoustic Cajon, I found the snare to be cheap and the cabinet design to be loose. For the money, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Great quality. The sounds and variations are great and fun. It also easily hooked into a sound system for added benefit.

This thing is a blast to play around with. It really is only a toy. The front part of the box is pretty thin and warped. It looks like it wouldn't last long out on the road. Although the bass drum portion sounds good, the Cajon snare portion is fairly weak. There aren't really many controls and the built in amp/speaker is pretty weak. The mix in really doesn't sound good. It reminds me of an old transistor radio. There is a direct out for the electronic sounds but they sound very, well, electronic. Velocity sensitivity is pretty lame as well. The electronic sounds are pretty much hit or miss. You have to hit it exactly the same every time to get, say, a tambourine sound. You think you are hitting it correctly but if you are just slightly off the mark with your hand then no sound. Still, everyone who has seen it just wants to bang on it a while so it really is pretty fun to play with.

Not loving it - but it is a fun toy. First off it is a pretty cool concept. I like the amplified sounds out of it and you can def. get some percussion going with the internal sounds and the cajon acoustics. It's not bad. My biggest beef is that like anything that does a lot of things - it doesn't specialize in any one thing. As a Cajon is concerned it feels a little cheap - my guess was that it is made in china and after you get a feel for it you are looking for the label. So yes it is on the same playing field as any other Chinese POS. However,..It is a likeable unit. It's fun to play, but when comparing it too a handmade Cajon, there is a big difference. If Roland could not mass produce these - it would be close to perfect. the second issue is the output which is digital only. The best part of the cajon is the acoustics - digital sounds are just icing. Lastly, I could feel a little warp in the front panel. Over time this could get worse.Essentially I think 399 is way too much for this product. I think 99 would be enough for roland to hit it out of the park. at a 399 price point, it is being put up against the very well made cajon's which this is not. It's a bit more of a novelty than a fine musical instrument.

Awesome cajon! Worked well on stage! If you buy one make sure you get yourself a keyboard amp for larger rooms! This way you can learn about the functionality of the instrument. Watch where you sit on the cajon because you can accidentally put it in mute mode with your thighs1 lolI recommend this cajon to anyone with an imagination to play.

The appearance was the only plus for me. The trigger response is awful at best. For the cost of this product I was expecting something more. I have played Roland drums and they are good if you spend the money, even the low end is still better than some competitors higher end stuff. Keep shopping... These need some tune ups before they get my attention again!
