I'll tell you what it actually smells like...
Ok, first off, this soap is great. It lathers fantastically and cleans all the places. I even use it on my hair and I think it works better than liquid shampoo. The smell is unique. I don't usually do reviews, but this is needed. I don't think anyone actually captures the way this soap smells properly and, really, that's the most important thing about it.Most reviews say it smells smoky. That's true, but far from the whole truth. It's not a simple smell and I think it's best described by a story.Imagine you're camping with the guys. Or gals, I suppose, though the scenario I'm about to lay out is probably less common in that situation. You've stayed up late hanging out around the fire. The only thing around is pine so you've been chucking one quick burning log after another onto the fire for about 8 hours. After burning through the dry stuff and putting back several beers and a couple whiskeys you grab a few un-split, wet logs and huck them on there. They don't burn well but by this time you don't really care. You go to bed smelling like pine smoke. This soap doesn't smell like that.Imagine waking up the next morning (or really just the same morning) to a sun that is too early and too bright. The birds are chirping, which is nice, but a bit too loud. You get out of bed smelling like stale smoke, unsure if you're just overly tired or a bit hung over. You stumble over to what's left of the fire. It's the green logs you threw on last night just smoldering away still. You start stoking it and throw a few more sticks in there so that you can make some much needed coffee. As the fire starts to smoke more and then finally some flames lick the bottom of your pot you start pouring water in to get it boiling. You unsteadily slip and dump most of the water on your little fire, putting it out. A gust of hot steam, smoldering pine smoke and old ash hits you in the face. THAT is the smell.Really it's not a bad smell. It just brings up the wrong camping memories. I'm still going to use the soap. It's great. I'll just need to get used to the smell. My wife isn't a big fan of the smell, which is unfortunate because it's pungent, stays with you all day, and perpetually permeates the bathroom.

Great at cleansing your skin/hair and treating it before a harsh day of work
I wanted to try this before having a monthly subscription, this soap is AMAZING for my skin and i'm going to stick to using it, but at the same time this soap is NOT for everyone, if you're all about synthetic fragrance then this isn't for you, it doesn't smell good, but it does a AMAZING job at cleaning your skin and hair... "yes I use it in my hair and it works well i know it's odd but it's a man thing"

CAUTION: This is REAL Pine Soap and smells like it.
CAUTION!!! This is REAL Pine Tar soap!!! You will smell like SMOKE/PINE because this soap is the real deal from way back when Pioneers headed West. This is NOT the Pine Tar Soap that is sold that has a nice Pine Scent with no side odors, this soap has the pine and smoke odor. So, what I am trying to say, is YES, you will be clean, but you will smell like you stood on top of your Homecoming Bon Fire and jumped before burning up.Again, this soap is what ORIGINAL/REAL Pine soap is supposed to be. I gave it 4 stars because I wanted the FAKE Pine Soap so, I could smell like Pine, not burnt pine.

Reminds me of camping memories
Packer's Pine Tar Soap is a good product. I will continue purchasing it. I enjoy the scent as it reminds me of a campfire. The scent does not linger once I dry off that I can smell. The Soap also makes my skin feel clean and moisturized. I used lotion because of my dry itchy skin. I have tried a "moisturizing" body wash that comes in a white bottle and yellow cap and still had to use lotion for my dry skin. Since switching to Packer's Pine Tar Soap I have not had to use the lotion since.I have also noticed that the rosacea on my face has lightened somewhat. I have been using Packer's Pine Tar Soap for only two months and hope the rosacea disappears completely. The only thing I would say negative is the brown soap bubbles on the white tub. You just need to rinse the tub when you are done. They do not stain but, my wife does not like the look if I don't rinse it. I like the run off color as it looks like I had a hard day of yard work/camping/etc. even though I just woke up. :)I have found my everyday soap in Packer's Pine Tar Soap. I will continue to use it. I hope this review helps.Oh, as an added bonus for those wiser individuals. I have read that pine tar can "color" your hair. I do use this bar soap in my hair followed by a conditioner. I have not noticed any coloring but would not mind the gray fading to a light brown.
