Only 4 stars because I really can't bring myself to 'love' shelving. But more seriously, these rails were delivered quickly and extremely well packaged. They are flat, straight and perfect for the job. The cost of a couple of rails, some matching brackets and a few lengths of pre-cut ply or soft wood makes for very cheap and tidy utility storage. Not something to use for living rooms etc, but maybe the chrome plated version could present itself better if used with the right type of shelf in a 'ultra modern' style environment?Do not buy these from Homebase etc - you will pay way over the odds for the same products. (Just make sure you put a spirit level over the top of any two rails to ensure the shelves sit level).

Unfortunately I left an assortment of Spur twin slot shelving behind when I moved house a few years ago. I didn't realise you could no longer go into the DIY sheds and easily pick it up. Most of what was on offer was limited in range and much less sturdy. It might be fine for some needs but I didn't fancy it. However this Watson stuff looks as good as the old Spur shelving although I'm guessing it's made in the PRC. An update: a few weeks after fitting this I found one ever so minor niggle compared with some Spur shelving that was already fixed in that the fixing holes are slightly smaller on this shelving so it's not possible to fix one hole, make sure the upright is dead vertical and then drill through using the the other holes as a template, push the rawl plugs through and fix the screws without the need to remove the upright from the wall after marking the holes and then drilling and plugging before putting back again.

Easy to install. Robust system design. Excellent quality and well finished products. Flexible cost effective solution to shelving. Can easily add extra shelf brackets to system if more shelves required. Can easily add extra uprights if increased loading capability needed. Very easy to adjust spacings of shelves. Don’t scrimp on the fixing screws, neither on gauge/length nor number used. Use every screw hole! Also, for safety reasons, always remember to use the screw holes on the underside of the shelf brackets that fit these uprights, to securely fix the brackets to the shelving material and to prevent shelves tipping forward.

The Watson 1.98m twin-slot upright has the advantage of being powder coated for better durability, and it has enough front to back depth to accommodate both of the common styles of shelf brackets.I’ve used these for years and never had one fail. The walls might have been marginal, but if the upright is truly upright and level with its companions then the shelving project is probably going to be a success.As with all these types of supports, one needs to be aware of the strength of the materials in the wall and the loading of what is being fixed to the wall to be able to safely select suitable positioning, size and number of fixings.
