Fables

I have seen different versions of Aesop Fables book, but i believe this one is the most complete. We need to go back to classics in this dark age.

Great book to read for original Fables abd folklore. LOEB has great books and this stand alone book is great for its stories and for showing the Greek and English translations. - DRC

This book received in perfect condition is the outstanding reference on Aesop Fables.

I have always taken time to read to my kids on a daily basis. The fables contained in this work are short, and to the point. They are enjoyable to read, and personally I found the introduction and footnotes to be quite informative in and of themselves. As I am also devoted to the study of Latin and Koine Greek, this volume gives me a chance to improve myself in the study of those languages, as well as French. I highly recommend this volume for the wit and wisdom contained in every single page of this Loeb Classical Library volume. It will not disappoint!

Perfect text & print but some pages are loose and not bound into the book cover’s meaning a DIY repair will be required to prevent further damage to the book.

The fables are full of little wisdoms & outlooks of that time. I bought this after reading Aristophanes constant mention of Aesop to speak of lack in others, I'm not so ignorant now lol though still a shaggy haired barbarian who can't speak greek. Either way, highly recommended. It's great for the begging study of Latin (Phadrus) & koin greek (Babbrus) ((not in that order))

My son wanted this for his preschool daughter so he can read to her in Greek. He majored in Classics so it will be fun for him and she loves it when he reads in other languages. She is going to be multilingual. And this book is fabulous.

B. E. Perry devoted his long career to the study of fables, culminating in his monumental AESOPICA. His edition of Babrius and Phaedrus was his last major work and he put in it every volt of his high-energy intelligence. His volume has a superb introduction that provides a history of the fable in the ancient world, a far longer and more detailed introduction than can be found in most Loeb editions. The translations are clear and Perry's annotations are invaluable. The fables come through very well, with deeply grounded scholarship but no drag of pedantry. Simply the best edition and translation in English.

こどもに、百人一首とか初等英会話とかを嬉々として仕込んでいる親が あるけれど、どうなのだろう。 たとえば百人一首を仕込まれた子供は、一番よくしてもなんだかのカル タ大会に参加できるのがせいぜいだし、英会話の方は、語るまでも無い。 その点、イソップを仕込まれた少年･少女は、その後自分の判断で百人一 首を覚えることも英会話に目端を利かすことも出来る上に、カルタ･英会 話連の上前をはねることも可能である。 これくらいな余裕を持って、古典寓話は読みたいですよね。
