how to install batteries? On the bottom is a hatch door thing with an arrow...I cannot get it off...and batteries are included with mine

There is an arrow on the lid. Push horizontally in the direction of the arrow. It will move just a little, then gently lift the lid up from the edge near the end of the arrow. The lid has a hinge on the opposite end so the lid will not come off completely. Battery orientation is confusing as well as there are no molded in -/+ signs. The aaa battery near the cover hinge should have the + end facing the cover. The battery above this should have the - on top. Hope this helps.

On amazon, i see a lot of forehead thermometers of the same 8813c, are these genuine? which brand is better?

I am not sure. I just bought this on and it is good. none are as accurate as an oral. Be sure to put lithium batteries in it or it will not work.
