Solid, dependable outdoor heat for strays
I bought these for a friend caring for a neighborhood colony of 'feral' and stray cats. Hearing that our midwest temperatures were going to dip well below zero with wind chills down to -30, she wanted something to keep the cats even warmer than the insulated, wooden cathouses she put up for them. The Snuggle Safes worked great- she keeps repeating how happy she is with them. The microwave heating guidelines are right on the disc so you can't lose them, and the discs stay solid when heated (unlike a similar product, the K&H Microwavable Pet Bed Warmer , which turns to mush in a bag). They also come with fleece covers that velcro shut and retain heat really, really well. It's -4 outside? No problem- in sub-zero temps, these stayed warm for at least 6 hours, and as long as 8 if the cats were lying right on top of them. She did wrap the discs in small towels or sometimes just paper towels, to further help retain the heat and to keep the cats from getting too warm. Helpful tip for anyone buying these to likewise keep outdoor cat shelters warm: hit the insulation aisle at Home Depot and buy a roll of Reflectix insulation. It looks like bubble wrap made out of shiny Mylar. It adds a layer of insulation to the shelters, and the Mylar reflects back up to something like 90% of all radiant heat. That means that when the animals lay on it, it reflects back their own body heat, keeping them warm. It works really well and is very cheap ($10 or less for a big roll) and easy to work with (just cut it with scissors to size). We wedged it against the inside walls of each shelter and lined the floors with it. That, plus a layer of straw (no blankets or cloth, they will absorb water, freeze, and freeze the animals), and a Snuggle Safe buried under the straw, made for some happy cats. I can't say they were cozy- it was, after all, the arctic-blast-o'-the-century or whatever- but they were warm and safe. Give these a try. I recommend you buy two sets- since they can't be reheated until completely cold, you'll want one set to have in use and another set to swap in while the first set completely cools.

Worth every cent!
I absolutely LOVE this! I ordered this for a 2 week old kitten I was little feeding. Experience shows that maintaining consistent body heat is the hardest thing to do for newborn kittens and puppies. THIS product does what it says. It truly stays warm for 8 hours or more depending on ambient temperature and is so easy to use. Simply microwave it. 5 stars all the way. My 2 week old orphan is now an 8 week old terror who thinks I'm Mommy, and I attribute a large part of that success to this heating disc.

Stays warm quite a long time
When I bought this I wasn’t sure how much I would like it. I didn’t like the idea that I would need to repeatedly warm it in the microwave. I have a 4.7 pound pup that has just turned 1. I keep my thermostat at 60 degrees for economy and was concerned that she might not handle the cold well. I had tried a pet heating pad for another dog, in that past. It didn’t last very long. Also, I would have needed an extension cord, which wouldn’t be chew resistant. When my pup was only a few months old she had been quite sick. She dropped her body temp and the vet put her on one of these, so I decided to give it a try and have been using it for several months. I actually place the warmed disk under a furry blanket that she likes to lay on. I heat it about every 8 hours. At first, it took some time to learn how long to heat it. My microwave, though 1200 watts, takes longer than directed. Although the product instructs not to reheat it while still warm. That wasn’t practical, because as it cools through the day there comes a time where it’s warm, but not warm enough. I have carefully learned how long it needs to be microwaved when it is cooled too much. Someone commented that the disk gets way too hot. That hasn’t been my experience. I do make it quite hot. Sometimes hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch, but once I put it in its flannel sleeve and under the thin furry blanket, it’s just perfectly toasty. It keeps my baby warm though the night and I reheat it while she eats breakfast. At first she didn’t want to lay on it because it is hard, but with her fuzzy blanket to soften it a bit, she loves the warmth enough, so that she now chooses to lay on it all of the time. I noticed that cheaper disks indicated that they held their heat for a shorter time than this one. I’m so glad I purchased it. It’s worth every penny.

Perfect for young or abandoned kittens!
This product is amazing!! I found a 4 day old abandoned kitten and needed something quick to keep him warm and at a consistent temperature. He absolutely loves it and is never not on the SnuggleSafe. I’m glad it holds heat so well, especially at night and that I don’t need to constantly reheat it. With the kitten being so young, the only thing I would recommend is microwave the disc for a shorter amount of time than what is recommended. I only heat mine for about 1:45, 2:30 AT MOST (no matter the wattage) as I want the kitten to be comfortably warm, not hot. If it is a little warmer than what I want, all you have to do is add an additional towel or blanket and problem solved! As long as you pay close attention to the temp, this is the perfect product!!!

Great Heating Pad!
I purchased this for my 3 year old cat who craves heat like a moth to a flame. Our house is fairly cold at night, and she sleeps alone, so I decided to buy this after she started sneezing a bunch. I also wanted something that wasn't a fire hazard. I was initially wary of the reviewers who mentioned the product melted and oozed, burned their pets, or was uncomfortably hard. So far, none of these have posed an issue. The instructions are clear on the microwave times depending on your microwave's wattage, and there are warnings about the consequences of overheating the product. I put the pad in the microwave in its cover for the allotted 4 minutes in my case, and I remove it after about a minute like it says. At first I thought the pad didn't seem extremely hot, but you will notice over time it will put out a steady amount of comfortable heat. The pad itself gets pretty hot, so I wouldn't use it on my animal without the cover. What seems hot or not hot to a person isn't the same as an animal. Since my cat is sleeping on it for hours at a time, I think she will also generate a sufficient amount of body heat, so that this pad doesn't need to be scalding to be successful. What I usually do is put it under the little cat bed or cushion she sleeps on, which further lessens the possibility of burns and also makes it more comfortable for her, at least in my opinion. Regarding the pad, I was surprised by how hard it was. I thought it would soften in the microwave, but it does not. I thought for sure my cat wouldn't sleep on it, but as I mentioned above, I put it under her cat bed, and she plops herself down on it and settles in for the long haul. I personally wish it were softer, but again that's just me trying to put my human preferences on this product, because after all, a cat/pet can sleep on the hard floor just fine too. The heat output lasts sometimes over 10 hours. Obviously it's not as hot as when you first heat it, but you can put your hand on it and it's still warm, which I find impressive. I wish it came in various sizes, and I wish I didn't have to wait until it was completely cool before reheating it, although I understand why that is the case. I'm very pleased with this product, and would highly recommend it.

Good solid investment that will last for years.
EDIT- SAFETY TIPS (1+2+3) 1. Only heat 1 minute at a time to check how fast it will heat up in YOUR microwave. Once you get it to HOT, but not BLAZING, you're done. Don't push it Mama. You now have your MAX TIME. THIS WILL SAVE YOU FROM INJURY TO YOURSELF OR PET. 2. If you wake up in the morning and want to heat it as usual, BUT IT'S STILL WARM from the previous day, only heat it 1 minute at a time to prevent overheating. THIS WILL SAVE YOU FROM INJURY TO YOURSELF OR PET. 3. If it's TOO WARM for you to touch it with bare hands (while it's in the cover) IT'S TOO HOT TO USE! Wait until it cools off to ICE COLD before trying to use it again. THIS WILL SAVE YOU FROM INJURY TO YOURSELF OR PET. Stay safe ladies, wishing you and your pets many happy years together. Original review: We've used these snugglesafe heating pads for years. But with two new dogs, it was time to get a couple more to make sure their dog beds were warm on a cold winter floor. I bought two more, plus extra covers, which you don't need because it comes with a well-fitting plush cover. The blue plush covers I bought don't fit well and in fact tore when I tried to put them over the heating pads. Some things to keep in mind when you purchase one of these: These are HARD. So it's best if you forego the covers altogether, and simply place them under a few layers of blankets, or like I did- in a bed that is two parts; the bottom part that sits on the floor, the second part is a pillow that fits securely into the bed. I put the snugglesafe between the pillow and the bottom of the bed, without the cover so it releases more heat up into the pillow they lay on. Because these are HARD, some animals will get freaked out by them, because it's obvious that something is there, as in the review that told about the barn cat who wouldn't go near it. You need to do as I said above, put it under several layers of bedding so they don't know it's there, or purchase a two-part bed that leaves the heat pad safely (and discreetly) out of their area. These get VERY HOT. You need to make sure there are layers of protection between your pet and the snugglesafe. (Again, as described above.) But, they will stay warm for hours and hours, if not until the next day. They work GREAT and will last you for years as long as you don't overheat them. Although they are pricey, they are a good solid investment to safely provide warmth to your pets.

They love it from Day 1, but...
I only purchased one at first, just to test it out. I used it after washing the cover (I always wash stuff before giving it to the dogs). My micro is 1100 watts. There is a heating chart on the unit itself (the disc under the cover) and a chart on the packaging. Unfortunately for me and anyone who has a microwave between 1100 - 1200 watts, the disc says 3 minutes and the packaging says 4 minutes. All of the other wattages match between the disc and the packaging. I decided to err on the side of caution and heat for 3 minutes. Left in micro for 1 minute post heating, per instructions. There is nothing in the instructions that I could find if cover may be microwaved. First time I put disc only in there and handled with an oven mitt (despite it not being scalding hot) and placed in the cover. 2nd time I put the disc and cover in there, all was fine. I saw a picture of someone's dogs' bedding that was burned from this... C'mon, now people, you can't give a product 1 star for your own stupidity! If the damn thing is scalding hot: leave it in the microwave until it's not! I could have handled the heated disc with my hand: this gets very warm, like nice and toasty but not BURNING hot! Why would you want to burn your pet? Get a grip, and use some common sense. If you have none, perhaps you shouldn't be using products that require you have it. I have to admit, I watched this thing closely in the microwave the first time, to make sure it didn't explode or ooze goo. If I saw melting, I would have STOPPED the microwave! Now that I know 3 minutes is nice and warm without melting or exploding, I can now heat up without watching it like a hawk. Again, common sense, people. My wattage on my micro was on a plate right as I opened the door... It also may be on the rear. Check it out. If you can't find it: start with the fewest minutes and increase the next time. You know... Common sense. My pointer mix doesn't lay on this spot, but once he found the disc (under the bone blanket), you can see him laying right on top. He is old, gets cold easily (had to break down and get him a sweater) and he must've loved this. I knew he liked it when he didn't follow us into the bedroom for the kiddo's bedtime. This dog is always on my heels. You can see my hound mix is first laying next to this product. Then she adjusts herself so she is on top of it. She's another oldie, slightly arthritic, and she seems to really like this, too. So today, less than 24 hours after receiving the first one, I ordered the second. Now my oldies don't have to fight for the warm spot. It's terrific! Just use your noggin. **starting to get chilly this year (2019) and there are two of us (people) in the home who use these regularly (last winter and this year) when a dog doesn't need it. Makes the bed so comfy and cozy!**

Baby kitten heaven!
The kittens love it! It heats up super fast (I only put it in for 2 1/2 minutes to make it warm, not scolding) and stays that way for at least 5-6 hours. I’m sure if would be more if I didn’t barely warm it up. Mom doesn’t sleep with them much. She feeds and leaves so I wanted to get something to warm them. The pic is the first nap time and the ones who found the buried disk don’t seem to need to pile on each other as much for warmth and fall asleep easily and first. I made a depression to place the rather large disk so the bed is still flush, they didn’t like having to climb. Since then they all seem to gather around the disk and there has been much less screaming while getting comfortable. I’m super happy with it I just wish it had cuter cover options. Oh and this thing is a beast! It a thick boi and doesn’t feel like it would break easily which is great but that also means it’s hard. Just put some fluffy blankets over it and you’ll be fine. The heat comes through no problem. I’m probably buying another when they get a bit bigger. Definitely worth the price!

Works great!
I have a 1500W microwave and heat it for 2 1/2 minutes. It stays warm for a long time! My cat is still getting used to it, but I am sure in the winter months will be all over it. Because it is a hard disc, I think she is trying to prioritize the comfiness, but I've started to put thin blankets over it to pad it out.

Heater is warping
So I got this a few weeks back while we waited for a puppy we were due to adopt, the foster parents had been using the same plate. Only been using it for about 2 weeks and have noticed it's warping. All instructions on heat times and cool down periods we've followed. When it worked it's great so assuming it's just a defective one. I'm 4 days out of the returns policy period so likely have no come back but want to let people know.
