VCR worked OK-Remote did not
To be honest, I wasnโt expecting very much from a used VCR. I ran across some old VCR tapes of my family and wanted to see them. So, I purchased this VCR/DVD player. The remote that came with it did not work at all but I was able to figure out how to work the VCR using the buttons on the front of the unit. This was fine with me at this price point because it is extremely rare the I watch the three or four VCR tapes that I have.

Returned product
Tried to connect product first through the TV box, didn't work, then tried to connect straight to TV. Put video tape in player, it was running all the time we were working on getting it to view. All of a sudden it starting playing on the TV and then all of a sudden stopped. Couldn't get player to do anything, rewind, go forward or even eject. Sent player back, with I might add, the tape still in player. Hoping to receive credit back to my credit card for the extra I had to pay on top of my gift coupon and my $50 back to Amazon for me to use again. I hope, I hope all goes well with no muss and fuss. Wouldn't let me out unless I rated this product, so gave it a one star undeserved so I could go to bed.

Great Buy!
This is one of the very few old style dvd/vcr combo units stll available. It set up easily. It actually began working on the first try - an unusual occurence for me when dealing with any electronic device! So,it gets 5 ***** for "ease of use." Features are as advertised and what I wanted - so another 5 *****. As for sound quality, I agree with other reviewers - it's not great but since I don't have surround sound it's adequate - so I gave it 4 ****. All in all, a great product for the price. PS It arrived right on schedule and hadn't been mauled - so more kudos!

Not bad for the price
I just needed a VCR to finish transferring my home videos to DVD and this was the cheapest non-refurbished stereo playback unit I found. It seems to do a good job of matching tracking and the picture quality is good so it works well for me. The DVD player seems OK but to be honest I play my DVDs in my Blu-ray player and only tried this one to see if it worked. I also did try the VCR record features. I don't imagine anyone is still recording to tape out there though since finding VCRs is almost impossible already. If you are looking for a recorder might I suggest you look into a DVR like TiVo or a DVD recorder (see below). Note this unit does not record to DVDs. I'm using Pinnacle Studio with a USB capture devices to capture the output of the VCR (and TiVo). From my experience the DVD recorders out there are barely better than SVHS. If you are looking for something to transfer your tapes to DVD spend your money on a capture device and some editing / burning software like Pinnacle Studio or Adobe Premiere Elements instead of a DVD recorder. You will be MUCH happier with the results and probably save money too.

Phillips DVD/VCR Model DVP3345V/17
I received the order very quickly. Connecting the video player was a snap with the provided instructions. So far it plays both VCRs and DVDs wonderfully. But you would expect that. Ask me again in a year. My only complaint so far is that the remote isn't intuitive. I can't say how many times I've opened the DVD drawer when trying to eject a VCR. Old dog--new tricks.

Discounts Jungle and Philips product warranty
Discounts Jungle sold me a broken dvd player. Since I didn't have an immediate need for the player, I didn't open it right away to discover it didn't work until after Discounts Jungle 30 day return policy. Discounts Jungle would not take the return and referred me to Philips telling me Philips had a year warranty on their products. That is misinformation to the consumer. Philips told me their product warranty is good for 90 days only. Unfortunately, I was out of that period too. I will not buy anything from Discounts Jungle again; and, of course, I will NEVER buy another Philips product with such a insignificant warranty policy. Their products are obviously not built to last much past 90 days.
