The Colored Pencil Artist's Handbook: An essential reference for drawing and sketching with colored pencils Flexibound – February 1, 2016

I was teaching a basic class in colored pencil and wanted a book that would be easy to read, well illustrated and benefit both beginners and more advanced colored pencil artists. This book fit my needs perfectly. It was a supplement to my own slides and exercises. The illustrations provide excellent teaching points in addition to the text. I have set aside other books, designed for more advanced artists, in favor of this one and will continue to use it as a source book for budding artists and hobby colorists.

I had my eye on this book for years and finally decided to try it out. There are a lot of tips in here I hadn't thought of before, like working with gesso, working with masking tape. The artwork is interesting, a looser style than I am used to seeing, but that's not a bad thing. My criticisms are that I wish there were more step-by-step examples, especially for something complex like a portrait. Also, I found the gallery of photographs in the back unnecessary.

Not what I expected. Just wanted tips and tricks for colored pencils - not a course on art and color.

Item returned. Too elementary.

Easy to use and follow. Great for beginners of all ages.
