Perfect OEM Replacement Shifter Cable Kit
This is an awesome shifter cable replacement kit. It comes with everything you need for a nice little upgrade to shifters that arenโt performing at their peak level. If you find that no matter how much you twist your shifter barrels back and forth to get just the right shifter adjustment and itโs not working, you need to replace your cables. I decided to pick up this kit to replace the shifter cables on my wifeโs bike and she immediately noticed a major performance difference when shifting. The kit was relatively easy for me to install, but I also grew up working in a bike shop for over seven years of my older child/young adult life. For those without that level of experience, the instructions explain everything you need to know in order to install these cables yourself, but you will need a bit of resourcefulness since not all shifters are the same. The kit comes with top-level Shimano cable housing, two shifter cables (one short and one long), cable housing ends, and cable tips to ensure the cables donโt fray, causing them to lose their tightness and power. Installing this shifter cable kit is a great way to bring life back to your bike, especially if youโre frustrated with the performance of your shifters and donโt know why theyโre so problematic. For the cost, this is a great replacement set with Shimano quality and performance proven over decades.

Excellent product.
I decided to make an attempt to restore my โold schoolโ Raleigh M60 mountain bike and replacing the shifter cables and shifter cable housing among other things was required. I am not a bike tech but I like to learn in the fly and was successful, thanks to the kit. There are no instructions but honestly, they werenโt needed. The amount of shifter cable housing that came with the kit was more than adequate for my bike and I imagine for many bikes. Since the number of housing end caps varies on bikes, hold onto the ones you have just in case you need them. Also, it really helps to have the right tools. I already had a Park cable cutter but I had to use my dremel to cut the housing because none of my non-bike specific cutters worked without damaging the housing core. I crafted a โjigโ (see image) with a thin piece of wood that had a hole to accommodate the housing. I marked the housing where I needed to cut it, inserted it through the hole and cut it with the dremel cutting wheel โ flush to the wood and perpendicular to the cable housing. Voila! Done deal! Nice and straight shifter housing. Images 1- new housing for shifters 2- shifter for housing headed toward the derailleurs 3- shifter housing from the seat post going to rear and front derailleurs 4- my simple โshifter cutting jig.โ Canโt believe I came up with it. This kit was excellent and more than adequate to get the job done. I would recommend it.

Great cables
I'm not much of a shifter cable aficionado, but these work great and provide smooth shifting, especially since my old ones were totally thrashed and didn't even work anymore. After ordering I realized these said "MTB" and I figured out they are meant for mountain bike application, so I was worried these would be bad lengths for my road bike. Turns out it was just fine and installation was a breeze, the lengths just seemed to be quite long for what I needed. So in case you're wondering, yes they will probably fit your road bike!

Good stuff
The kit provides all the housing and cable you need to replace your brake cables on a normal bicycle (it may not have enough for tandems and recumbents). I wouldn't tackle the job without cable cutters, otherwise the ends of the cables are certain to fray. I can't think of any suitable substitutes perople are likely to have on hand. When cutting the housing, get the cutting blade between the coils to avoid crushing it, then finish it with a file or grinder to clean up ragged ends that might hinder movement of the cable, or cause undue wear. My only complaint is that the ferrules for the housing ends and the cable tips are inherently easy to loose, and it would have been nice if Shimano included an extra one of each.

Shimano quality products at a low price point. Whatโs not to love!
I buy the products my bike mechanic recommends , and save a lot over bike shop prices. Shimano, an industry leader. Be sure to consider cable housing, again with my mechanics endorsement. For a smooth shifting, it makes bike riding a breeze!

Its Shimano, a bit more expensive
If you don't have special cable cutters you will need to ream out the your cuts to make it work. Otherwise, it basically works, I haven't tired 3rd party replacements which may be as good. Shimano is my go to product, even when its more expensive.

Everything You Need to Replace your Bike Shift Cable
The rear derailleur on my kid's Trek 4300 Mountain Bike was no longer working as it should. After buying a replacement derailleur (Shimano Acera, from Amazon too) and installing it, I noticed that the shift cable and housing were messed up. So I bought this Shimano Shift Cable Kit. It comes with everything you need. The job seems to be a little intimidating but after watching a few YouTube videos I was able to replace the rear derailleur, the shift cable and the housing rather easily. The bike is shifting great now! Cable fit perfectly in my Shimano 8 speed V-Brake. I would recommend buying real cable cutters though, much cleaner cut and you can return it the next day and tell HD that they didn't work for you. It doesn't hurt that I feel like a Bike Mechanic God when I finished the job. :o)
