Excellent product, see pictures!
I recently bought this reliance toilet because it looked big enough, oval, and has a lid to keep smells contained, oh and it supports 300lbs according to the manufacturer, and it is foldable to save space! At 308lbs this morning I decided to test out my weight on the reliance toilet. At 6'1 I needed something sturdy and not too small so that I can actually use the darn thing. As you can see in the pictures, I placed three plastic 6 inch bed platforms under each of the three legs of the reliance toilet. I had these 6 inch bed platforms laying around my house that are about 8 years old. I used these 6 inch bed platforms to bring the reliance toilet up off the ground 6 inches more than the reliance toilet would be, because I am a large man. Because these bed platforms hold perhaps 400-600lbs or more under a bed platform, I thought their shape would disperse the weight of the reliance toilet even further. I would assume cheap plastic platforms come in 2", 4", 6", and perhaps 8" depending on if you are tall or not. At 6'1 and 308lbs this reliance toilet and bed platforms holds my weight and feels sturdy. I would never lean back onto the toilet lid. The reliance toilet didn't come with any bags and I'm not sure that this one from Amazon is intended to come with any bags, but at $40 it was a steal! The reliance toilet comes with scratches. I read about these in the reviews. These are nothing to worry about, the toilet is not used, but rather it appears that reliance buffs out any plastic imperfections that might cut or scrape us, so thank you reliance! The toilet is designed for maximum weight and portability, so we sacrifice a little product assembly - just folding the legs out. Look up YouTube videos on how to fold the legs out, and how to fold the legs in. Because this item is unique, we simply need to learn how to fold the legs. Each leg is designed to use two hands to release the two plastic clips that hold each leg in. Familiarize yourself with the folding and unfolding of the legs before going out to limit future frustration. After learning how these legs and clips work, and practice a few times, it is extremely easy to use! I picked up some biodegradable poop bags that fit this toilet so I didn't need the bags that sometimes come with this toilet at more cost. I'd rather bury biodegradable bags with a camp shovel than carry out feces, but that's only my take on that situation. Great product so far! I will post if any updates if thing doesn't hold up!

Trick to folding the down the legs
We will be camping in a remote site with no toilets, and I didn't want to deal with digging holes. After lots of online research, I decided on the the Reliance folding toilet. With prime shipping, it arrived in two days. We haven't field tested it yet, but set it up at home. It is very sturdy and the seat holds the bag in place securely. One concern was the issue that many reviewers had about how hard it was to fold up the legs, but since others said they managed to do it, I decided to try it. It set up easily, but note that when you are locking the legs in the open position, you have to push very firmly, at an angle, not straight down. After several unsuccessful attempts at folding the rear legs, and on close inspection, we realized that when you are pushing/pulling the two taps on the rear legs, the trick is to pull UP on the leg, whereas we had been trying to make it fold in. Once it pulls up, then the leg folds. It is a little hard to push and pull the two tabs at the same time, and you do have use some force, but the key is to lift up. With that resolved, I'm sure this will be really useful! It is sturdy, compact when folded, and easy to carry.

Should be easier to close
Very sturdy if on flat solid ground and works really well, but it is next to impossible to fold the back two legs down! I know the trick is that you have to pull the leg out while pushing the tab in on one side and pulling it out on the other, but even so, it’s been on two trips and I’ve never managed to get both back legs to collapse down.

When you gotta go, you gotta go (in style)
Worked great for a recent camping trip. This sits slightly higher than other options that are available making it a little more comfortable for people to use. The three legged design makes it a little unsteady, so be careful while using it. You don't want to tip over and fall into the contents of the bag. The included bag and replacements worked perfectly. One tip: if you install the black bag over the seat instead of under it, it's a built in seat protector for multiple users. Each user is responsible for his or her own bag for the duration of the trip. For single user, you can use bag as directed, although tossing deodorizing kitty litter or sawdust over each deposit makes this endeavor a lot less smelly. Unlike other reviews here, I found the legs easy to extend and retract. The seat shape with its slightly elongated shape makes this more comfortable to use than the hassock or 5 gallon bucket seat models. This takes a little more space than the turbo toilet that has a larger seat opening, but the added on this makes it overall more comfortable to use.

Worth every penny
I love this little potty. Super sturdy, well balanced even on ground that is slightly lumpy. I am middle aged, too heavy, and have a wretched case of carpal tunnel in both hands, yet I found it easy to unfold and refold the legs after examining how the clamps work. Just had to take my time and look at what I was doing. If the legs are locked in place, it's not going anywhere with you on it. The only dislike I had at all was that I found on longer trips, I wasn't fond of the bags that came with it...they're a little expensive to replace every time you go, and they really smell if you use one to its capacity. After watching some videos about composting toilets and urine separators using the bucket style portos, I came up with some modifications specifically for this pot. It was great before, now it's perfect, and would be ideal in a van life or camper setting with no hookups and very little effort.

Updated review - from 4 stars to 1!
Once I figured how to fold up the legs, I liked it MUCH better! However, the construction is very sturdy, and the "double doodie" backs work very well with this unit. I have a small teardrop camper with a tent attachment, and this is absolutely perfect for me. When I'm camping in the summer, it fits right into my shower/changing tent, and in the winter, I can put it in a little private corner of the attached tent and not have to go outside! The legs, however, are a MAJOR issue! I could get the one in the front to fold quite easily, but the two back legs were very stubborn. I watched two videos, which helped somewhat, but finally ended up tossing the thing across my garage in frustration. Voila - the legs folded! I found that if I push the legs inward, it helps to release the lock. Now that I know how to fold it up, I'm back in love again. However, the manufacturer really should include some detailed instructions on folding and unfolding the legs. You shouldn't have to throw it across a garage to figure it out! For that reason, I'm giving it four rather than five stars. Update : took this on a camping trip this weekend, and as I was setting it up, the front leg FELL OFF! We tried several times, but were unable to put it back on! It was useless to us for the rest of the trip, and of course, my window to return it has closed! Ordered a Black Pine Turbo Toilet to replace it. Do not waste your time on this one!

Well made/however
Inside seat hole circumference is approximately 8 3/4 in. length by approximately 8 1/2 in. width. It seems to be sturdy. Release tabs are a bit stiff however I think it adds to it's sturdiness. I wouldn't use a plastic grocery bag as I think it would open too much of a chance for accidental spillage, I use regular household plastic 30 gallon trash bags (30 gallon is my preference but you could use smaller) for peace of mind. I haven't used it over a cat hole however it appears like it would be perfect for the application. The only preponderance I have is that I ordered this from Walmart for 30 bucks and before arriving they cancelled the order and so I turned to Amazon for the purchase after that yet it came in a Walmart shipping box from Walmart for $44. It's a Reliance product with the name stamped on the lid yet it was packaged under the Ozark Trail name brand. At the end of the day though I am happy with my purchase and that's what counts. Just makes me go hmm... UPDATE: I have lowered my rating to 3 stars. The reason is that with only three legs it is extremely unsturdy when you are wiping your bum. When you lean to clean the toilet wants to fall over. I so wanted this to work because the portability is great. Too late to return but I will find alternative. I'm thinking 5 gallon bucket with a seat.

Replacement toilet
I just purchased the Reliance to replace a much older portable toilet I've been using for years. The older one worked, but had a tendency to scare off others as it was nothing more than a toilet seat that snapped onto a set of rather unstable cross legs. I have a big group campout coming up and decided to upgrade, besides, it was time to anyway. I got this home last night a set it up and am very impressed with it. It may be a tab low to the ground but it is by far superior to what I have been using. And I don't think this one is going to scare any fellow campers as it seems to be quite stable and has more of a `toilet feel' to it than the old one. Update 7/7/2011: I've now used the Reliance Products Fold-To-Go Collapsible Portable Toilet on several camping trips. Combine it with the Texsport Deluxe Camp Shower/Shelter Combo and you end up with one great privy for camping. Initially I was concerned about its height, not an issue. I can now say that I highly recommend it, and I have lots of fellow campers that will back that recommendation up!
