Easy replacement for a good, compact disposal
Exact replacement went in without problem, and works like new, which of course it is.

Works perfectly
Ok install was easy I had to do it twice more on that in a second. Works well what I didn't know and the reason why I had to install twice. Is when I hooked it up the first time I was replacing everything in a house I just bought. I never used the old dishwasher and only used the new one for the first time the other night after it ran through the cycle and I was emptying it out the water never empty I was thinking the new dishwasher was defective or I did something wrong turning it on. Long story short I was reading the instructions for the dishwasher and got to the part of if you have a garbage disposal you must knock out the knockout plug where the return hose goes I didn't do that because I didn't know. So if you have a dishwasher make sure you knock out that plug before you install.

Excellent Replacement
I ordered this disposer to replace a previous Whirlaway model that had broken. I believe it was original to the house, so that model lasted 16 years (though I can only vouch for it having lasted the last 3.5). So, knowing it had a good lifespan, when it came time to replace it, I had no reason not to go with another Whirlaway. As an added bonus, the plumbing connections that were all still in good shape fit the new model, so I only had to change the actual disposal itself. This made the process far quicker than anticipated & I was up & running in no time. The biggest surprise was how much quieter this model was than the old one - the first time I flipped the switch after it had been installed, I immediately turned it right back off thinking that the motor was running but nothing was spinning. However, once I turned it back on & looked down the drain while it was running - sure enough, everything was working as it should, it was just MUCH quieter than the last one! All in all, great product & at a great price here on Amazon.

Good unit for the money
I purchased this unit as a replacement for a Whirlaway 1/2 horsepower unit. Price was a key factor here. I will be moving soon and I didn't see a need to pay more for something that I wont be taking with me. My old unit failed because of corrosion issues. Frankly that surprised me a bit since the upper chamber part is plastic but apparently the area near the blade is not. (Of course I understand that the blade itself isn't plastic) but that isn't what failed. It was the area just above the waste water outlet. I had the unit, maybe, seven years. That is about the amount of time i have had other units including more expensive ones. I don't see myself as "hard" on any disposal. I am single. Its not used daily. I DO use it for nearly ALL garbage. I DON'T use it for bones, except for chicken bones which are soft, particularly when cooked. I don't use if for tough fibrous stuff like corn husks or banana peels. Just general garbage stuff that should grind up easily. I don't put garbage out for the trash because of racoons which invade nearly everything you throw out. Anyway, the unit works fine for my needs. My old one worked just fine until the water started leaking under the cabinet due to the corrosion. I compare this with my old unit because the style is essentially the same. Lower horsepower which seems adequate for my needs. The construction is the same. For this reason, i will assume that it will ultimately have the same problems when it fails but I wont be here to see that happen. I HAVE had more expensive units made by the most popular brand company. It didn't really give me any more service of any better service. It IS easier to instal however and easier to change over to a new one if you keep the existing mounting. THIS unit is not especially difficult to install. The only issue is a large black rubber ring that seals the unit and helps hold it in place. Installation can be simplified by coating the rubber ring inside with dish-washing liquid which will make it slip together easily. The rest is pretty straight forward. You will need plumbers putty to pack around the metal ring which seals with the sink. This is standard with any drain assembly installation. Uninstalling the old unit was a problem. I had to use a vice grips to break away parts of the metal retaining ring assembly. This was due to the corrosion issues which had effected the outer areas of the disposal as well as the insides. Once the old one was out, the new one installed rather easily using the dish-washing liquid trick. The unit is small and lighter weight than many. it takes up less room under the cabinet which may be good for limited spaces. Some people have spoke about the lack of a (plug-in) power cord. Cords are generally not standard on these. Some installations, such as mine, are "hard wired" to a flexible cable. newer installations use the cord and plug. So IF you need a cord, you simply use the one on your existing unit. Otherwise they are available separately. There is no real reason the cord should need replacing since it is not a wear and tear item. To instal you simply need a cord clamp fitting and wire nuts. If you are not comfortable with doing that, you probably don't have the skills to instal one of these anyway and should refer it to a handyman. I rate it 4 stars because it is economical and cost effective and works well under "normal" use. Some people seem to have gotten more life out of these. I'm not sure how. But due to the fact that I have had similar life from more expensive ones, I don't see the sense of spending more money than you need to. If budget is of importance, this will do nicely.

Exact Replacement for the Old One - Everything Fits
While I am giving this new one five starts, I certainly can't give the old one even two stars since it locked up so often and finally refused to budge. I very rarely even use a garbage disposal. It was new when I moved in three years ago. The good thing about this new one is that it was an exact fit. If this is the first time you have replaced a garbage disposal unit, it isn't a 30 minute task like some would have you believe. If it is the second time, perhaps that is remotely possible. The electrical connection is not entirely simple if you do it correctly. Whoever installed the original one really did a poor job of connecting the ground wire. I bought crimp connectors to do it right. Be sure to remember to knock out the plastic plug where the dishwasher drain connects. I knew I was supposed to do that, but I forgot anyway. So if you see a lot of water in the dishwasher after your first load, you forgot just like I did. The fix was quick, about ten minutes including finding a suitable tool. The instructions are both good and bad. You have to read closely to make sure you assemble the gaskets in proper order. When I disassembled the old one, I noticed that even the plumber did it incorrectly. So look closely at the exploded diagram. Even the so-called professionals can get it wrong.

Replaced with same disposal builder installed
We built our home in 2002 and, of course, the builder installed the cheapest garbage disposal they could. However, it is now 2015 and the disposal they installed just went out. Actually, because I put watermelon rind down it which I had done before. When I removed the disposal, I did discover that it had rusted out in the bottom where the propellers/cutting blades are located. I thought about replacing the disposal with a more expensive, nationally known brand, but, after realizing that the lower horsepower, unknown brand had lasted for 13 years, I decided to do an internet search for the same disposal which I could not find locally and I live in Houston, TX. So, instead of spending $200 at my local Home Depot, I spent $56 on Amazon. I just unhooked the original disposal and put in the new one. I didn't have to change hoses or install a new connection to attach it to my sink. It was the easiest installation I've ever done and, yes, I am the one who did it, not my husband. The new disposal is actually quieter than the previous exact same model. So, YES, I definitely recommend this garbage disposal, especially if you are replacing the exact same model as I was. I even recommend it if you're not. Why spend more money if you don't have to.

Working great! No more leaks!
Didn't know it but I had an under the sink leak caused by an old deteriorated seal on the disposal. It caused me to replace the cabinet flooring (usually OSB which soaks water up like a sponge) with solid plywood so not entirely a bad thing. Making the assumption that my original disposal was installed in my house, the old one worked for 11 years. In fact, it was still working when I replaced it with the new one (I needed new seals). Sounds like the life expectancy for these is between 10 and 15 years so just decided to get an entirely new one seals and all. The uninstall/reinstall was really easy and now it's all good to go! This was the exact model that I had before, great unit!

Very satisfied with the product
Replaced an old whirlaway (1/2 hp) with this model. No problem installing it with no modification to the existing plumbing. Very satisfied with the product.

Great quality unit
Great quality unit, easy to install. I refitted my sink with this to replace an older one of the exact same make and model. There is a very noticeable improvement in performance with this unit as the blades are new and sharp.

Great!
I had a whirlaway for 10 years and only needed to replace it recently. I thought it a very good product. I was also very pleased with the order as it arrived sooner than stated. I would recommend this to a friend.

Installed perfectly and easily. Glad we could still get this model to ...
Replacement for an old worn-out unit. Installed perfectly and easily. Glad we could still get this model to marry up with the piping/our sink fittings etc. Recommend.

Good product - installing it may be challenging
We replaced an old Whirlaway 191 with this new one. There was no issue as the new one had the same dimensions. Our old one lasted for 20 years and was replaced because it leaked and all the parts and rubber were getting very old. Good product, the only issue if you do-it- yourself is installing the rubber that retains the top of the garburator. The instructions were not very clear.
